ParticipantAll,
Okay, this is part two of the fight for Rhein-Main Airbase. We left off with a very small force from Team Whiskey (two infantry platoons from Kilo Company, two TOW sections, and a couple SF teams) trying to keep the Soviet armored horde from overrunning the airbase, and things weren’t going so well, particularly given the fact the Soviets just shot down our air support…
A TOW fires into the flank of the lead enemy mecanixed elements.
Fighting got up close and personal.
US tank reinforcements came on, but didn’t do so well, and then the Soviets pounded the US center with supporting fires. First came the 122mm shells, then came the 57mm rockets. To see the whole write-up, please check the blog at:
http://blackhawkhet.blogspot.com/2015/11/team-whiskey-fulda-gap-batrep-9-part-ii.htmlThe elements of Team Whiskey were able to put tremendously high casualties on their foes, but not enough to hold the position. The Soviets ran through them, easily taking Rhein-Main airbase, throwing area NATO forces into a headlong retreat for the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke, the last remaining bridge across the Rhine. Team Whiskey is now down to its commanding officer, LtCol Lacy, a single tank platoon under Lt Travers, India Company under Captain Phillips, which is down to two platoons (under Capt Sighe and Lt Ensmith), and a few attachments from Weapons Company. They are streaming towards the bridge, hoping to beat the Soviets there.

ParticipantEh, there’s still a sliver of Whiskey left 😉
I’ve played the last battle (number 10) and I’m working on getting it written up (173 pictures!). Next time? The war is over man. And regarding Team Whiskey losing WWIII, watch yourself, Old Man 😉

ParticipantNot sure yet man, need a little R&R. I’ve got stuff to paint, and, as usual, too many ideas for campaigns. I certainly want to get back to smaller fights for a bit. I’ll certainly keep you posted.
Regarding batrep number 10, I’ve got all the pics uploaded and formatted, and I’ve written up the first two turns. I still have another page and a half of notes for the next three turns… It’s coming, just taking forever, and now I’ve got baseball games on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, to catch us up from all the rain.

ParticipantI understand, I’m reading up on Verdun and I’m looking to run some linked battles based on that. I’ve got some more painted French coming and I’ve put paint on some of my Germans the last week….Yeah I know !!!!But I’m done mowing for the year so maybe I’ll get painting again.
Also looking for Battlefront to put out Team Yankee some time this year or next… -
