    Dear All,

I had a crack at a solo game adapting Battlefront’s Fate of a Nation AIW rules and stats to a NATO/WARPACT scenario set in 1968, assuming the Bundeswehr rogue generals had succeeded in their illegal attempt to invade East Germany and touched off WW3. Batrep here:

Ah, Centurions. What fine tanks! A very exciting and well illustrated report Sparker. Thanks for posting that.  Very impressive forces there. That would be a micro-armour game sized battle for me!

    Cheers and good gaming.

That looks fantastic Sparker, beautiful set-up and models – I really wish I had the money and the space to get into larger scale Cold War gaming, maybe one day………

With regards to the scenario: my Step-dad was serving in BAOR in the Signals during this period and he once told me that part of his job at the time was to listen to what was going on over the border and to track radar signals. Just before the invasion of Czechoslovakia happened he said that they watched all the radar signals going out across the border and that they were convinced that the Warsaw Pact was getting ready to attack the West, he said it was a relief that they all came on again round the Czech border so I guess that everyone got really nervous at the time.

    Sparker,

Fantastic!  And your table and toys always look amazing (much better than my own…).

Did I read that right: you won with your last Centurion?  Cuttin’ it a bit close, but maybe not.  As I’m taking another look, it looks like 2 Troop hadn’t taken any casualties, just 1 Troop, so you actually did pretty damn good!

And there ain’t nothing wrong with some solo gaming, welcome to the dark side 😉

    V/R,
    Jack

Thank you all for your kind comments! Yes by any measure the Centurion is a fine tank, probably still in service somewhere in the world, and a fine looking vehicle too! I agree that 1968 does seem to have been a bit of a low point in the Cold War, definitely plenty more scenario fodder to be found…

Yes, 2 Troop took no casualties, but 1 Troop probably left it too late to pull back to their second set of fall back positions and lost 2 Centurions unassing the village. NATO got away with it with some useful artillery shoots, whereas the Soviet artillery was a real let-down – I may have to rethink the ‘Conscript’ label for the Red Gunners….
