World War II was one of the defining conflicts of the 20th century. Just two decades after the end of World War I, it claimed as many as 60 million lives (although estimates vary) and spanned the globe. Let’s explore some of the specifics of the Second World War.

But just how much do you know about the most destructive conflict in history?

(Surprising difficult, with quite a focus on the Pacific)

Only 26/30 – not so much focused on the Pacific, as slanted at Americans in general, I thought. Of my 26 at least three or four were lucky guesses.

I am reasonably sure that I know more about the history of WW2 than the setters of the quiz. I am certain that I know more than they do about the history of Nutella.

Several of the “correct” answers to this quiz are demonstrably wrong.

Still, astonishing in its own way to manage all those questions on WW2 without once mentioning the Battle of Britain, the Battle of the Atlantic, El Alamein, Stalingrad, or Kursk.

The only sensible Facebook quizzes I’ve ever done are “Which Medieval Heresy are you?”, which I think said I was Pelagianism, and the one that told me that my Shamanic Power Animal was the slow loris.

    All the best,

    John.

I had a quick look at it, at the school gates.
I think one question’s answer was along the lines of 45M civilians and 15M troops were killed.
A later question was how many troops died, 10M, 25M and something else, given the previous answer I picked 15M and was told the answer was 25M, I gave up at that point…

The Nutella one was one I got wrong. I was sure it was invented after the war but could not be arsed to check, but now you mention it – yes, unless the war lasted until 1947 that was not the right answer.

Shows how lucky some of my guesses must have been!

I was doing okay with 16 out of 18 when I got distracted by an article titled ‘Female Athletes Who Are Out of Your League’ (Correct answer: All of them).  At that point my Flash player crashed.

This is probably a metaphor for something.

There must be similar discussions on American websites, where people are complaining that Question 2 is wrong…

Yes, sorry, I don’t normally post these things because of all the pop up adverts!

i think I got about 23, but with several lucky guesses. Yes some of the correct answers are dubious, but I thought the questions were quite interesting, as the main British focus for WW2 does tend to be around Europe and a bit of Africa.

And yes, it seems that Nutella wasn’t invented until 1947, and even then as a solid bar. He made it a creamy spread in 1951 and it wasn’t released commercially as the Nutella we know today until 1964.

Install ad-blocker on whatever browser you’re using. I never get pop-ups anymore.

But of course, we all enable adverts on TWW, so that the people that advertise on here keep doing so and keep the site running.
