I can’t tell you how happy I am to report: PROJECT FINISHED!!! I ordered a boatload of aircraft from Thomaston last years, for WWII Pacific, WWII Battle of Britain, and various moderns (from the Korean War to present). Previously I’d completed the WWII Pacific set, and even played quite a few fights with them using the very simple “Battle of Britain” rules (https://oldleadbreed.blogspot.com/search/label/Battle%20of%20Britain%20Rules).
However, the WWII Battle of Britain and Modern sets had languished on the painting table… until now! I recently had a surgery (emergency appendectomy), so while convalescing I sat down to base and paint in snatches, and this weekend I finished them up. What now? Well, first up is probably going to be heading to Cuba Libre for some modern air fighting over South Leon (https://cubalibrewargame.blogspot.com/), and then it’s either back to the War in the Pacific, or over to the Arab-Israeli Wars (https://swordofgideonwargaming.blogspot.com/) for some dogfighting during the Suez Crisis. Unfortunately, Battle of Britain is just going to have to wait, due to the amount of projects I’ve already got going on… But enough talk, let’s see some pics!
The whole shebang, WWII Battle of Britain on top, Moderns on the bottom, 152 aircraft total.
Just had to do some VF-84 “Jolly Rogers.”
Some F-86 Sabres.
And how about a Spitfire?
And just to give you an idea of the size of these things: at left is an HR 1/300 Typhoon. At bottom center is a Picoarmor 1/600 Typhoon. At far right is the ‘Tiny Air Combat’ Spitfire you just saw in the previous picture.

Thanks for looking, and stand by for some gaming (probably during the Independence Day holiday).

Are you back?
That’s a lot of planes to paint. Can’t wait to read more battle reports.
The colors you used on the German bombers and AWACS is very pleasing to my eyes.
You could also do colored bands around the rear fuselage for BoB aircraft. Or some red/yellow on the wing leading edge to differentiate RAF fighters.

Yes Sir, I’m back, and so glad you saw this! I still don’t have a tremendous amount of time, but I have resolved to get off my lazy butt and maximize the time I do have. I need to write up and publish some old batreps from last Christmas (nothing special, but moves the story along), then the next fights are these guys, over South Leon.
I’m glad you like them, trying to do you proud ;). Someday I’m going to hit you up for more, but I’m not ready yet, too much going on (assuming you’re willing).
I’m very happy with how they turned out. Regarding the Spitfires and Hurricanes, I don’t think there’s enough room for fuselage stripes, but the leading edge flaps is a great idea!
Thanks man, and great to hear from you.

I can do more planes. What do you need? A Mystere IV?
Did you ever posted pics of F6F and F4U painted up?

Ouch man, I’m glad they got the appendix out of you before it blew up! Can’t wait to see what you get up to.

Thomaston-Thanks on the offer, but I’m not ready yet 😉 I keep thinking about Vietnam strike gaming, both Air Force (F-105 and RB-66) and Navy (A-4 Skyhawk, RA-5C, F-8 Crusader), maybe some more WWII stuff (P-47, FW-190), who knows. But please don’t worry about any of this right now, I can’t, I’m out of wargaming money for awhile, and I’m on a strict “finish the projects you already have” regimen.
And yes, Sir, I posted the pictures here:
Darby – Hey man, hope all is well! Yeah, I’m glad, too, and getting back to normal.
On a side note, did you have anything to do with the recent releases of FNG and UW?
