I’m trying to talk myself out of buying 15 mm painted ACW figures from Scale Creep Miniatures to game  ACW with Rebels and Patriots.  It would cost me around 500.00 for everything.

Jesus, Kyote! Do in 3mm and it will cost you a tenth of that.

We get slapped around, but we have a good time!

Can’t do 3 mm. Anything less than 15 mm and I could just use cardboard counters. Besides this is for painted troops, not just raw lead.

It seems like a lot of money KB.  On the other hand if you’ve got it, why not?  If not now, when? As poor Primo Levi said.  You’ll be game ready in days and have a lot of fun.  That’s the standard advice I give to pals who want a treat-none of us are getting any younger.

Two things come to mind.  First you could probably do it for half the price by buying painted figures on ebay and rebasing is not that big a deal.  Second if you asked folks here if they had suitable painted figures to sell you might be lucky and in pocket.  Not me, I don’t sell stuff any more.

Good luck with it whatever you decide.

    OK, then… DON’T DO IT!

On the other hand… you don’t say how many figures it is so I don’t know whether it’s a good value or not. But you can’t go wrong with 15mm ACW. Even if you lose interest in the period there is a ready market for used figures. Plus, it’s one of the most widely gamed periods of all. No doubt you’ll be able to find willing opponents in your part of the woods (southwestern Ohio, IIRC?). Also, IIRC, Mark from ScaleCreep was originally doing business in Cincy (now in Chicago?). He has always provided excellent service and value. Plus, plus, you get to support your local sheriff, er, vendor, even if they’re no longer local. It’s a tough business to make a buck in!

    Finances certainly need considering.

However, anytime I’ve decided not to buy anything for the hobby, I’ve later regretted it.

    Don’t miss the opportunity.

I am weak and I ordered them today, but it’s only 419.00, not 500.00 so there is that.

I can’t throw stones, I’ve been guilty of this sort of thing before!  (the latest is full season tix for the Dallas Stars for next year.  Painfully expensive)

Sent the check off this morning, after I base and flock the painted Infantry I’ll only need to paint 6 cannons,24 gunners and 30 Cav to have both sides.

That’s great, having both sides is a BIG plus!

I never know if I’ll have an opponent so I buy both sides so I can solo play.

Still basing and flocking figures I did get the Reb Cav base coated.  I was off reading The British are coming by  Rick Atkinson the past two weeks, a great book on the AWI.

I have all the Infantry Guns and Gun crews based flocked and ready to go. Sent the 30 Cav off with my friend Kenneth to paint. Almost there.

My friend Kenneth is bringing out the 30 ACW  Union and Rebel Cav. he painted up for me so I now have all the painted figures I need.  Now I need to start playing some solo games to get the Rebels and Patriot rules down. On to Richmond !!!
