I’m new to this part of the forum but I just thought I’d let folks know I’m running a Star Trek / Space Hulk game mashup over on my blog – mudbloodandsteel.
Thought it may be of interest to those who drop in here from time to time.

Clever idea and one you could play in reverse with the Borg on the Federation ship.
My real concern is the Borg shields vs phasers ‘problem’ from the genre and the almost invulnerability this causes. House rules needed here I think.

Glad you like it Andrew. I’ve covered the adapting to phaser fire aspect by having the Borg figures shrug off a hit (by adapting their shields) if a miniature in overwatch rolls a double when firing.17/01/2022 at 14:51 #167213Darkest Star GamesParticipant
Bit of a tease there. Looking forwards to reading if they pulled it off or got down with the collective.

They say always leave them wanting more. Lol. The truth of it is my regular blog followers are somewhat vanilla in their tastes and my experimentation with VSF and sci fi might be testing their patience too much. Next weeks post will bring matters to a conclusion – for this game at least, so pop back if you get a mo.19/01/2022 at 01:34 #167281
I enjoyed part two 🙂
shame there was not a single red shirt in sight even though that did not bother the Borg.
The pile of counters used for turn tracking is a technique I’ve not seen before and putting the different colour in to denote a special point is smart. I could use that in a few of the ‘One Hour’ games where reinforcements for both side come at different points – I’ll borrow that if it’s OK?!?19/01/2022 at 09:38 #167308
Glad you enjoyed it Andrew and feel free to nick whatever ideas you like out of it, God knows I’ve nicked enough off other people over the years, lol.19/01/2022 at 14:45 #167320Darkest Star GamesParticipant
Good report! I like the rules concerning the phaser rifle and close shooting. Maybe you can allow for the first 2 Star Fleet people in a line to fire as the front one can kneel? Maybe that costs an extra activation point for the front ranker or something. At least their ears won’t get blasted into deafness like if they were using slugthrowers!
I’m looking forwards to the next test game and you using some of the additional bling you mentioned. A buddy of mine would be super keen on this rule set as he is not happy with other Trek sets he’s come across.
Any plans on maybe including forays into Klingon or Romulan, etc zones?

Glad you liked it too matey. To answers your questions yeah I’ll be doing Klingon and Romulan at some point in the near future since Modipheus do these races in their TNG range. The 3d terrain items won’t be here for a few days so I suspect that it’ll actually be a couple of weeks before I post another Trek game, (there’s a Neolithic Paleo Diet mission and another in my VSF campaign to run first). The time in between Trek posts will allow me to experiment with wider corridors that’ll allow multiple firing figures without further rule complications – so I’ll be doing some mock up federation ones out of foam board to see how that works. If your buddy drops by the blog then he’ll find the rules I’ve used up on the top right of the front page. He’s quite welcome to have a go with them (print em out, mess with them etc) if the spirit moves him, lol. On that issue I would recommend downloading the Space Hulk original rules too if he doesn’t have them. If he ever has a go with them then I’d be pleased to receive a bit of feed back, good or bad.
Who am I kidding I only want to hear the good 🙂
Cheers for taking the time to check it out and post a comment!20/01/2022 at 08:08 #167332Sane MaxParticipant
Needs More Tribble
It looks excellent! I am not a Trek fan at all, but even so it inspires me.
I have always preferred second edition Space Hulk because it’s the sort of game you can play with your wife or kids without them needing to learn oodles of extra rules, I might be able to get my kids to play if I can think of the right Not GW world!
How about Star Wars Hulk? Or something completely off the wall – we could use Xenomorphs V Colonial Marines!20/01/2022 at 10:18 #167352
I agree Max, there’s very little that couldn’t be improved with the addition of more Tribble!
Space Hulk was the entry level introduction to gaming for both of my two lads and we had great fun with it back in the day. I’m sort of aiming this project at the grandkids now, but I’m not a big GW fan so tweaked it to fit my love of Trek.
In fairness almost any other sci fi genre could be added to it with very little hassle. Colonial marines would be ideal since it’s pretty much the same as the original game…just with no GW aspect. Win win!
Thanks for your thoughts on the matter. I’d be pleased to hear if you ever have a go at your own version.20/01/2022 at 10:48 #167354Sane MaxParticipant
Daleks!!!!! – tough, remorseless – the right sort of ‘roll toward the enemy’ mentality……. could be onto something here. Kids used to love WHO before it got awful with the new show-leader.20/01/2022 at 12:10 #167365
If you can find the minis for it…why not try it.20/01/2022 at 15:02 #167383

Stuff the minis idea – search on eBay for full size plans and go 1:1 🙂20/01/2022 at 16:06 #167388Thaddeus BlanchetteParticipant
With a title like this, you owe it to yourself to put a Hulk figure in a red Trek shirt.
We get slapped around, but we have a good time!
