Here’s a solo AAR and review of Nordic Weasel’s Trench Hammer rules for small unit actions of the First World War. Has anyone else played them and what did you think?

I have a copy of the rules but have not yet played them. I posted a thread about them a while back and Joise Tinman (sp) has them as well.

Reading your AAR helped me to understand the rules a bit. I have a very hard time learning rules just by reading them I seem to catch on while having someone teach me them.

That’s always the easiest way to learn, I find as well. I did this as a Solo game, just so I could work through each section at a time and get a better understanding. The rules are pretty simple once you’ve got them.

I am glad you enjoyed them.  Quite the thrill to see them on your blog, as I have repeatedly been inspired by your stuff in the past!

Trench Storm was a set Ivan had done years ago, Trench Hammer is firmly in the Squad Hammer Family.  I suspect we will do an update after Ivan Finishes Hammer of Democracy, he has some new assault rules that work really well and streamline the process while giving good results.  Of course, it is a tool box like any set of rules, ripe to be tinkered with.

The thing I love about Wargames Vault is if we do any updates they can be provided free for everyone that has already purchased the rules and Wargames Vault will alert you.

If you’d like a preview of the new assault rules, see my latest QRS posted to: https://sites.google.com/view/tinmanwargaming/the-great-war

Thanks Jozi, that’s very much appreciated. I am happy to have inspired you! The rules are excellent and we’ll be trying them out again tomorrow, so I’ll take a look at the new assault rules and see if we can work them in. I wasn’t sure where Trench Storm fitted in and was the only First War set of rules I could find on Ivan’s site, so I assumed they may be related. But as usual, assuming only makes an ASS out of U and ME! Ha ha.
