On Sunday we played Trench Hammer again, this time as a two player game. The latest blog post is an AAR with some more discussion of the rules. Please have a look here:

I’m glad the game went well!
Doing both the hit roll AND the opposed roll would probably get pretty bloody indeed 🙂
THe opposed roll will be the standard in Hammer of Democracy, for what its worth.

Someday I hope to figure out your rules Ivan..before you change them again.19/10/2018 at 08:07 #101841
Thanks for the comments Ivan and clarification! Yes, we found that the two rolls were really wiping units out! So does that mean there is a typo on Jozi’s QRS by adding the -2 modifier on the assault?
KB, which bit are you struggling with? I find them pretty clear and smooth running.

Unless there’s something I am forgetting or he tweaked the rule, I think that’s just a hold-over from the original rule.

I suck at learning rules by reading them, I need someone to teach them to me.19/10/2018 at 22:03 #101938JozisTinManParticipant
Hi guys, sorry I am late to the thread, regular life has been intervening. Yes, I think I have a typo in the QRS where I was fiddling with it to switch over to the new assault rules. I’ll fiddle some more with it this weekend.
I am glad you found the unit cards useful. As usual, your terrain and figures are superb and I am gratified that you found historical tactics worked.
Kyote, I have been thinking about doing a step by step tutorial, do you think it would be better as a video or pictures with words?

Video with subtitles would work best for me. I’m kinda deaf so reading what you say helps.20/10/2018 at 09:07 #101963
Thanks for the clarification guys, I thought that was the case, so it’s good to be proven right! Ha ha.
Jozi, the cards are excellent and I will definitely be using them in all future games. They really speed things up.
One question I have as I have the two of you’s attention, Scouts. We played them as though any rifle unit that plays an engage action can put out scouts, thereby minimising their casualties to a maximum of one for the first round of fighting. However, if they take a casualty then they lose that bonus for any further fighting. Is this correct?
KB, it’s a shame we live over 3,000 miles apart otherwise, I would be happy to demonstrate the game to you!

Thanks! I laminate everything I can get my hands on, unit cards, quick reference sheets, the cat.
As for Scouts… I pulled that in from Ivan’s Squad Hammer Options Pack, so if you deploy a scout from a rifle section you have the “Point Man” advantage I think it is called. I threw that in there because in the TFL scenarios you frequently have scouts available.
I need to put a disclaimer on my stuff that I have usually tinkered with it, and while I have the idea straight in my head, my docs may not convey it very well.
I did get trench hammer on the table weekend before last with my wife’s 14 year old nephew and it went over like gang busters. I will try to get pics up today.

Thanks, Guys!20/10/2018 at 20:12 #101998
Yeah, the laminator is the best thing I ever bought, worth every penny. LOL at laminating the cat.
Let me know when you post your next AAR (a couple of rules clarifications wouldn’t go amiss!).
