Going to be a pretty niche post this one, but since I have been playing a bit of Twilight 2000 recently, I thought I would write up some notes on how you actually play the game – it isn’t as obvious as it should be – and some thoughts on it as a ‘hex-crawl’ game.

Is it still as insanely detailed as the original version?

Obvious contrarian and passive aggressive old prat, who is taken far too seriously by some and not seriously enough by others.

Honestly wouldn’t want to say which one was worse for insane detail…I might (and as I write this, thinking the next words should be ‘need help’) do a quick firefight comparison of the two systems…

Now, I have heard that the latest version (4e) is a lot less detailed, a lot smoother, and more of a ‘survival’ than ‘tactical wargame disguised as an RPG’ game.

We played the heck out of the OG version back in the early, though heavily modified so it ran more smoothly.  We never did port to V2 as a good friend advised us it wasn’t worth repurchasing so much material.  I did buy the 2 more recent versions (2013 is one of them, I think?) but haven’t gotten around to really reading the rules, just the fluff.

Funnily enough, we never played TW2K as intended as our groups generally decided to either not try to get back to the US and set up in eastern Europe, or our games started already in the US.  I can totally see how it could be an excellent hex crawl

I ran the hell out of Twilight 2000 back in the day and had all the supplements adventures I even Nuked Warsaw.  My late wife Margaret loved it she played an Army Doctor who outranked all the other players.
