I’m currently finishing off my long neglected First Carlist War collection. Here are two units, one for each side.
The first unit is of National Militia very much the armed wing of Liberalism. Competent at defending fixed positions in their home areas. They fared less well in the open field. They had a reputation for massacring prisoners and consequently fared badly if captured by the Carlists. Figures from QRF.
The next unit is seldom seen.
Portuguese volunteers for the Carlist Army. The visual clue is the green boina (beret) that they favoured. They were thought to be good troops. The grenadiers are from Totentaz Miniatures and the rest from QRF.
The figures are big 15s more like 18mm.

British Marines comprising figures from QRF and ERM. Unlike the British Auxiliary Legion these were experienced British regulars. The Spanish thought them slow coaches.
