I just rceived my Microworld tanks. Man, these are REALLY low-slung! So much for using them as Ogre heavies. I am wondering if putting a bit of plasticard on the bottom would beef them up a little.

We get slapped around, but we have a good time!

I guess it just didn’t bother me as much, but yeah they’re very low-profile.  I imagined them as having the crew in the center of the hull, with the turret being an automated gun system.  I hear that the Team Kukri tank masters have been bought by Microworld so that’s something with more “body” to it, albeit somewhat more “anime” and conventional.  Which, of course, I happen to LIKE, but it’s not your granddaddy’s Ogre proxies.

You might like Team Scimitar though – more body height and they have a kooky and angular kind of look that might work well for a Non-Big Two tank series.  Nova Brasilia, for example.  If I may. 😉

Some things I did around the edges of the weekend: HSDF and ERRF forces.  These labels were originally super saturated but the toner kept flaking off because of it and it looked awful so the graphics took a little revision.

Incidentally, I picked up some of the O8 “Drahh’z” forces which look terrific.  In my universe, Drahh’z is one of the Batollic States, the outermost (in their view of the universe) and the one claiming territory including Alpha Centauri and (unfortunately) Sol.  Drahh’z therefore considers itself responsible for “peacekeeping” in the Sol System, and will be intervening in the conflict on Mars as a third force – one with advanced weaponry and a developed culture of warfighting.

Most interesting about the Drahh’z miniatures is that they have pre-drilled holes in the bottoms so I can (and will) mount them on a wire so they can “hover” over their bases.  Very nice touch, and given the density of the O8 metal, a very welcome time-saver.

The Drahh’z are just spectacular and mix very well with Vanguard’s stuff as “not Eldar”, too, so keep that in mind and get two armies for the price of one.

Basing not finished, but this bad boy is already flying – a Batollic Draah’z “Swiftblade” battle tank.

I really like that grey and orange scheme.  Gonna steal that!

Just as the forces of the Federal Mars Colony use superheavy autonomous tank units to control vast regions of the planet, the warrior castes of the Draah’z Assembly use massive mechs, classified variously as “Rōnin,” “OHMUs” and “Striders” for heavy battle line duties. The below is a “light” version, massing a mere 14,000 tons and only about eight stories tall.

I think I recognise it as being from the WHISPER Kickstarter.

Yes you can get it from Impact Miniatures. It’s a multipart resin “WHISPER” mech. Nice little piece!  I’m not a huge fan of resin but these are turning me around – they have tight-fit parts and excellent definition.

The Mars colonies are all members of a loose confederacy, banded together for self-defense, given their distance from Earth. They make extensive use of autonomous vehicles, like this, a Mark III “OHMU” Autonomous Armored Vehicle. Shown next to a pair of L2 Laser Tanks, the main battle tank of the Mars militias, for scale.

Those are the not-eldar I have been waiting for.

Can you please give us a photo of that Strider next to some 3mm infantry and tanks, in order to get a more precise notion of its scale?

And a slightly sharper yet less stylish photo.  Unfortunately, the images lose definition when I shrink them down for the web.  Such is life.

Nice. Those are my two picks for not-Eldar, too. Now I just need to buy them.  :/ Thanks!

Some flash grenades and an insect charm will sort them out

Never mind. Nausicaä reference. I assumed “OHMU” was from there.

Everything in this project is very, very nice to look at, anyway.

AH!  Yes, of course.  OHMU actually stands for “Oversized Heavy Mechanized Unit,” and is from a game from the 1990s.

Can you please remind me what the big mecha is? I can’t find it to order now, though I once could.

It’s from Loud Ninja/Alternative Armies, found in the Loud Ninja 15mm range.  Tavshar Arcon.  It’s a great model!

    What he said.

Its a bear to assemble – a ton of pinning and a lot of epoxy. But worth it!
