Two days and two nights after the disastrous attempt to free their Major Privates Alf Tupper and Tom Plunkett make it back to their own lines, get a good night’s kip and are ready for dawn stand-to. Alf staggers to his feet then drops his helmet in the sand and scratches his head in total confusion. Pipe Major Potting is standing on a nearby dune playing ‘Scotland Forever’ on the bagpeeps…

“Wot the bleedin’ ‘ell’s he doing here Sarge!!!???”

“Him and the Major got picked up yesterday by an LRDG patrol, they brought a bunch of prisoners with ’em too.”

B Company Black Watch have been tasked with denying a small bridge to the enemy. As the sun rises high a suspicious looking object appears through the haze…

As the German scout car advances two Platoons of B Company move into the rocky ground on the right flank of the bridge…</p>

Just in time as the 12th Panzer Grenadiers begin to move in support of their Recc Unit…

What happened next? I was hoping to see the 222 mow down some Brits.

Oh, ignore Thomaston, he’s a natural contrarian, always rooting against the good guys!  I’m glad to see it’s not just against me though 😉

Two platoons of Brits vs a Sdkfz 222 and a platoon of DAK?  20 May, eh?  I shall mark it on my calendar!

The DAK recce car commander ducks his head down as he gets hit right in the eye by a flying fly, by such little things, are battles lost. By the time he’s cleared the mini missile’s remains from his mince a British armoured car has gone racing across his front without a shot being fired! A familiar figure may also be seen skulking into the ruined ancient temple thingy on the DAK scout car’s flank.

No.4 Platoon make their way into the rocky ground as No.5 head for the road…

The speed with which the DAK can move and deploy once again catches the Jocks on the hop, a mortar and heavy machine gun being deployed under the cover of the wall.

A rain of bombs and tracer bullets are very soon hitting the ranks of the plucky Scotchmen…

As the Tommy’s hit the dirt the 12th Panzer Grenadiers storm the bridge!

Recovering it’s composure the DAK recce car storms in, all guns blazing!

At the critical moment as the bridge looks like falling a wondrous sound drifts over the desert on the wind…

At the critical moment as the bridge looks like falling a wondrous sound drifts over the desert on the wind…

To the skirl of the Peeps the rest of B Company advance from over the dunes and far away!

Two hairy arsed Heelanders are sent crazy by the sound of their Peeper, storming out and grenading the DAK scout car!!!

The DAK takes the fighting to close quarters, but the Mad Scotchmen have heard the skirl of the Peeps and the Germans pay a heavy price. The two hairy arsed Heelanders, sent crazy by the sound of their Peeper, are met by a blizzard of fire from the rapidly reversing scout car. The Jocks hit the deck after hurling their Mills bombs…

The DAK scout car commander’s got more than a fly in the eye now… BOOM!!!

The DAK fight back grimly as B Company sweep forward…

The 11th Hussars let fly with devastatingly accurate support fire…

But this is the Afrika Korps, not the Italians faced by B Company a couple of months before, their response is equally devastating…

“Scotland the Brave Potting!” Roars Major McGregor. “Scots Wha Hae!!!”

The Haggis-Bashers storm forward firing from the hip, and turn the tide, slaughtering the DAK support units and driving the enemy back over the bridge…

The remnant of the DAK Recce unit routs across the sands as B Company reclaim the bridge…

For gallantry above and beyond the call of duty in destroying the enemy scout car at a pivotal moment of the action. Private Shughie McFee  becomes Lance Jack McFee  and is awarded the Military Medal.

Apparently you did, sorry Harry, can’t give you any more chances.
