I have just received an email letting me know that Nordic Weasel Games has released an RPG game called “Usurper” (most likely the one opinions on the cover art were sought), and I was wondering if anyone has played it, and if so, can they post a review or an AAR (if an RPG can have such a thing) please.

I am interested in the rules, especially if it is good for an old fashioned dungeon crawl.

It might take a few days for people to dig through the game.

I’ll be happy to answer questions though of course, that’ll be pretty biased 🙂

I do have two examples of play from just sitting with the dice and going through a sequence. (This was before the title changed, don’t mind the confusion)

(the text got screwed up, highlight it to make it more readable)

And some examples of the resolution system.

Interesting mechanics. Are there any modifiers for the dice rolls (like the dice rolls explained in the second link), or do the traits modify the dice rolls?

No modifiers. Actually that’s a cardinal rule I stuck with. What you see on the dice is always the result you got.

Traits do one of two things:

1: They let you roll twice, picking the result you want (that is usually the higher one but sometimes it’ll throw up an interesting choice).

2: THey let you roll something you couldn’t normally have attempted. (like using a STRONG trait to lift a rock that’s far too heavy).

Either way, the trait is “burnt” making it unavailable until you’ve rested up a bit or won something.

In the example a result of needing to rest 30 mins is mentioned – how does that work in the middle of a combat? Do you keep making actions vs a lesser success rate?

“Felicia gets a 25 (inconclusive, fatigue – must rest 30 minutes). She struggles with the henchmen, the two characters locked in a brawl. Several blows to the head is draining her energy, but she manages to shake it off ”

If you become exhausted during combat, you can spend one of your traits to push on (something like Tough, Endurance, Determination, Strong willed or similar).
