    Vendee

I’ve finished my Vendéans for Rebels&Patriots.  There is a write up on their historical tactics on my blog along with more some pic’s.

Now that is a great project! The “Rampant” series of rules by Mersey are great for these little interesting but obscure conflicts. Clever to class the rebels as “natives”.

That said, I must roundly curse both you and Vincent for bringing this whole thing to my attention. Not only was I unaware of any Vendee figures, but now you also go ahead and mention a great book about the period!? I feel my New Year’s resolution about the “Pledge” rapidly eroding…

It was already crumbling because I got a book about the Venetian-Ottoman war in Crete, and I think Pikeman’s Lament would serve admirably for it!

It’s a good one Tony.  You can also get your French Republicans from the same place as the Vendéans- Lancashire Games Archive ranges.  Both seem to be by the same Designer so no size issues and you don’t really need cavalry.

The book and the rules are affordable too.

It was Vincent’s interest that led me too the period.

So sorry to have been the cause of trouble.

Very strange, to be leading devout ultra-conservative forces against the revolutionaries. But then I play some strange sides in other games…

Not at all, it’s the right sort of trouble.  The hobby takes us to strange places and situations.  Part of its charm I think.

Absolutely. All sorts of little corners of the hobby to enjoy.

Lancashire figures can be somewhat large, but so are Blue Moon. Are the Vendee figures from Lancashire larger – do you think both companies castings would mix well?

I think that this is the type of army that deserves a lot of variety. Just idle curiosity…

Lancashire sizes vary though nowadays he seems set on biggies.  I’ll take a comparison pic or two and post them here.

Might throw a few touches of brighter color on my Vendee rebels too.

Yes, I pretty much followed Matt ‘Blue Willow’s” illustrations for mine right down to the occasional pair of stripey trousers.

Here is a pic of two bare metal Lancashire Vendeans alongside two Blue Moon Canadians ans a Polly Oliver AWI officer. All very compatible in size and heft.

    Hope that helps Tony.

Thanks OB.  They do seem very compatible, and horribly tempting…

In my experience the temptation becomes irresistible when Lancashire have a sale on.
