They’ve come out nicely. What rules are you planning to use?

Never argue with an idiot. They'll only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

    Abwehrschlacht:

Rename yourself Abwehr Sigursson (Abwehr the son of victory) and go a Jomsviking. Then you can burn down those lovely turf buildings you’ve been working on! The skalds will sing of your triumphs and the Godi will bless and protect you. The world is your oyster so go out and seize the pearls of viking!

    Cheers and much slaughter.

    Roderick Robertsson.

Cheers guys, Ruarigh Dale, I am writing my own homebrew skirmish rules, based around the small scale looting and fighting in the Sagas.

Roderick, I have donned my pointy helmet, grown my beard longer and summoned up my Longship, glory awaits! Victory or Valhalla!

Sounds good. So, will you be aiming for a saga-style rather than realistic style of combat? With saga-style heroics and swimming feats? And will you post your rules on your blog? I’m always impressed by people that can actually come up with their own rules and be satisfied with them. I’ve tried writing my own Vikings rules, but am never satisfied with the results. My knowledge of the period seems to get in the way of making a playable and enjoyable game. still, a person can never have too many Vikings rules, you know. Or too many Vikings.

I am just fleshing out the rules at the moment. I want it fast and furious, with not much emphasis on the type of weapons or armour being used. I figure that the figure will be using whatever weapon they are reasonably good with using, so the actual effects are based on the man behind the weapon, f you follow my drift? It’s all going to be governed by a three tier system, with the figures rolling the amount of dice in the attack depending on their level. I want to use the recent card based activation that we used in a Rapid Fire game the other week, meaning there is not so much of an IGOUGO turn base.

Another aspect is that I want each player to control a small band of men, with a group of target non-player figures, the thing under attack, be that a farm-owner, monks, etc. The players will be competing to get the best loot, rather than just have a fight to the death style game. It’ll be base don raiding and trying to up your prestige back home. As I say, it’s definitely a work in progress ATM, but I have a few ideas. And yes, I will publish them on the blog as soon as I have finished them!
