OK, so my friends and I tried out the new Warhamster 40,000 9th edition rules yesterday. You can read all about it at https://rollin-with-my-homies.blogspot.com/2020/08/warhamster-40000-9th-edition.html

So let me ask this: with not liking this edition so far, will y’all be going back to 2nd edition or early 8th?
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."

We played the Cultists properly: parked on Objectives and screened by bigger, tougher, shootier guys.
We will play 9th a few more times amongst ourselves to be more familiar with the rules, so that we know what we are doing for pick up games or events by Las Vegas Wargamers. When we settle back to just having fun, we will go back to using Xenos Rampant, or FiveCore if we want smaller games.

2nd is when, in my opinion, it all started going wrong. I had a lot of fun with 2nd, don’t get me wrong, but the first edition right out of the book was the best. 3rd made me want to play other games instead, and I guess I should be thankful because that directly lead to me being taken on board by Dark Age Games as a developer a few years later. That was great fun while it lasted!

That’s what I use for my solo Warhamster 40,000 gaming. Along with the two hardcover Realm Of Chaos books.

We will continue to learn 9th. Among our little group, we much prefer the Xenos Rampant bolt-on for Dragon Rampant. However, knowing 9th is important when meeting new people and being involved in club games. And, out of the blue, my friend Brian (with whom I have not gamed with in many years) invited me to join the 9th edition Crusade campaign he is playing with his his brother and nephew. So it helps that I am familiar with the rules and have an rules-compliant army ready to go.
