This one was news to me as well.  I was particularly surprised to find that an army of 5,000 Norwegian warriors stayed in England for the winter.  I would have thought that might have created a certain amount of uneasiness on the part of the locals.

Took ’em a long time to get anywhere. Best part of a year to sail from England to Spain! Does sound more of a giant lads’ outing than a crusade. Bit of fighting and looting, and a stop off in Ibiza!
