ParticipantI avoid contributing The Miniatures Page (for reasons we shan’t discuss here), but I do keep an eye on the Napoleonics folder, esp. the Russians. There’s always the possibility of new information, or at least some hints to where I might be able to improve my own page. I’m watching the discussion of blackened equipment for the Russian Jaegers. So far, it seems it’s pretty well covered on my web page. Then yesterday von Winterfeldt posts a link to my page with a brief endorsement. This morning…not a hint it was ever there… (Meanwhile, several paragraphs cut-and-pasted without attribution from Mark Conrad’s translation of Viskovatov remain immediately prior.)

ParticipantSounds like one of you may have upset someone!

ParticipantOr it is a bug and the post vanished when the site did its arcane overnight database reindex.

ParticipantPosts disappear all the time. It’s a policy, not a bug.
Fortunately this forum exists instead. 😉

ParticipantAlways best to stay mum, lest the “bug” come for you.
Fossilizing nicely.

How apposite!
First use of that word since becoming an annointed ‘pensioner’ !

ParticipantYou aren’t alone in having this happen Jonathon. The Admiral makes a valid point.

ParticipantThat’s odd- with your link I’m repeatedly getting:
This site can’t be reached
zaotlichiye.000webhostapp.com took too long to respond.Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
Running Windows Network Diagnostics
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUTUsing Windows 10 and Chrome.
No problems elsewhere my end that I can see.

ParticipantCan’t edit other peoples links, but he was dissed by his servers back then so is now next door… use:

ParticipantI knew that!
Late and didn’t check the age of the post.
Thanks for the gentle reminder.
However I’m still getting this:
This site can’t be reached
kiver.000webhostapp.com took too long to respond.Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
Running Windows Network Diagnostics
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT(which is what happened when Jonathan changed servers – no idea why I can’t access this still)

ParticipantWell sorry, I got there yesterday as I check links before reposting anything, probably an ‘other’ access issue if hes actually hosting from Ruzzia as well 🙁
Ive learned to save such data/ info pages, just in case…

ParticipantVery weird.
Still taking too long to respond. Cleared cache, ran windows diagnostics, everything appears to be okay my end and no problems connecting anywhere else.
Hmm?
Obviously something I’m running but what?
I must have a prod about.

**Edit** I had a similar prob with tww as well for a few hours.
Perhaps but then these ‘in between pipes’ are subject to a lot of interference of the ignorant and nasty kinds, so you can’t tell. Our own Windsor based govt. has ‘upgraded’ their ‘social support’ systems recently and disenfranchised old comps, old browsers, and doesn’t play nice at all.
Need to use 2FA? No problem, we’ll send your codes (multiple) in about 14 hours!
Wonderful way to treat ppl. I was acting in IT (user interface and UAT) when I was shoved out the 19th story window… big business/ monopoly has a lot to answer for…
Just for laughs try out Ghostery ‘Dawn’ (privacy) browser. it’s quite good and keeps a few creepers and bugs out/ away.

ParticipantJonathan, it appears your site has been taken off-the-air again . . . any news you can share?

ParticipantIt’s still there. You just need to click on the link at the top of the landing page. Or you can go directly to the page here: https://kiver.000webhostapp.com/allfacings.html
Edit: That’s odd – when I click on my own lick the page isn’t there. But I can still get it when I use the book mark in my browser or click on the link at the top of Greystreak’s link.
Another edit: Now I can’t get it at all.

https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/kiver.000webhostapp.com.html
You got a cached page or something?
15/07/2022 at 16:59 #175774General Slade
ParticipantIt must be something like that because I could call up the page successfully two minutes ago but it has now disappeared completely.
18/07/2022 at 15:30 #175865Greystreak
ParticipantSeems like the site is back up at its same location now: https://kiver.000webhostapp.com/allfacings.html .
All’s well, then.

ParticipantNever seen behaviour quite this weird for a web page – it opened for me at 16:00, but tried opening it in another tab on the same browser at 16:01 and ‘no such website’…
Never visited it before so it can’t be a cacheing thing.

ParticipantThanks Mike,
That works for me. Hopefully Jonathan will be able to find a new host soon. It is a wonderful site and I refer to it often.

ParticipantNot in blighty it’s not. Still getting err connection timed out here.
21/07/2022 at 09:05 #175969General Slade
ParticipantIt’s working in this corner of Blighty.
21/07/2022 at 14:55 #175996Guy Farrish
ParticipantWeird.
Still timeout error for me. On a different computer than in May when I couldn’t connect. Using a different AV package. Cleared everything. Diagnostics say the wifi connection is working, broadband internet connection ok but target server not responding. No known problem with any other sites.
Can’t be right – maybe it’s me!

ParticipantCan’t be right – maybe it’s me!
Nope not really. The site is messing around.
I noticed that it must have multiple servers/ service as the page icons changed- when on old server it was one thing; changed to next; now all back to original icon; i cant be assed doing TraceRoute coz as I say, I’ve saved copies (and there is the backupski system) for my use anyway.
The perils of using a remote AP and ‘free’ at their mercy. Mike why don’t you just host him on here, can’t cost too much and the ads revenue may increase because of it?
BTW just on the content- Facings especially, often overlooked but important here, you really do need to consult the referenced footnotes thoroughly. They range from simple abbrevaited citations to expansive dissertations with illustrations, so JG really does his homework, and sets out to define what he can, and more importantly can’t, clearly!
cheers dave
