Just a quick note to introduce the Wessex Wargames Society, based in and around Southampton (not to be confused with Wessex Wargamers Winchester, who used to share the same name). The club was originally founded by Don Featherstone and Tony Bath back in the mid-1960s – we still have a couple of members who played with them back then – and so we are fairly sure that this is the oldest formal wargaming club in the world. A current member whose name may be familiar is Kevin Lowth (screen name “Fat Wally”) who is both a prodigious and talented painter of 15mm figures in several periods; his work can be seen on a number of other fora including WD3 and TMP.

We meet at least two Saturdays per month at Colbury Memorial Hall just off the A35; the first meeting each month is 10am to 6pm (all others are usually 1pm to 6pm), which allows some large, multi-player games to be played on a regular basis and on a typical Saturday, there will be up to 10 games going on, with 30+ members playing. Future meeting dates and other info about the club can be found here:-

There is also a forum that contains details of members’ activities, and opportunities to organise, or participate, in forthcoming games. Rules covered include SAGA, FoG (AM and R), Bolt Action, Chain of Command, and numerous fantasy/sci-fi sets (there is also a Blood Bowl league).
