ParticipantBoth! I never rely on varnish to flatten a gloss paint job as it rarely works. I add talc to the paint and the varnish and it works a treat.

ParticipantWow those look great! Talc? I would have thought that would cause visual lumps or some sort of aggregation that you could see. I’m amazed by the smooth result.

ParticipantThe paint will go lumpy if you add too much but that’s easily rectified by adding a touch of water.
See https://blog.vexillia.me.uk/2011/09/painting-tips-5a-matting-acrylics-with.html and https://blog.vexillia.me.uk/2008/05/painting-tips-1-humbrol-mattcote.html for tips on paint & varnish respectively.

ParticipantI don’t care if you added cake batter to your paint, those are incredible!

Thanks for the kind words. It’s mainly the result of practice and high quality brushes.
I really like that green and white helm too.
It’s neat trick to add colour to an otherwise monochrome figure and it’s not totally unhistorical as painted sallets are well known (but far more complex than just two colours).

ParticipantVery nice indeed Martin,
Just on ordering Roundway from the new outfit, I ordered three lots of figures from them earlier in the year. All of my orders arrived just fine. Took about 3 weeks each time.
The lack of pics on the website needs to be rectified but they are very nice figures.

I understand that the new owner does things in batches. Waiting is not a problem but I needed some information before ordering. I wanted to avoid returns and all the hassle that brings. I may take a punt in a few weeks.

ParticipantNew blog post:
I’ve just completed another mini-project. This time it’s a couple of artillery pieces for my Italian Wars army. When I saw these figures I was struck by how characterful they were so they’ve jumped a good few places in the painting queue.
