Can anyone recommend me a good book (or books) on the East African Campaign in the 2nd World War? Preferably an overview rather focusing on specific sub-theatres, but any good reading on the subject would be appreciated! Thanks
Here’s some online resources to start with:
https://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/UN/SouthAfrica/EAfrica/index.html#contents Official South African Campaign History.
http://ibiblio.org/hyperwar/UN/India/EAfrica/index.html Official Indian Campaign History.
http://ibiblio.org/hyperwar/UN/Belgium/Ethiopia/index.html Account of the Belgian (!) involvement.
http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a519298.pdf Brief military history of the campaign.
http://www.wikiwand.com/en/East_African_Campaign_(World_War_II) Wiki site on the EAC.
Those links are great, thanks (the SA one isn’t working, but I’ll figure it out in a mo). I can’t read on screen for long, so I’ll have to print them out, but they look worth it. Also nice that the ibiblio “books” include bibliographies – I’ve already found “The Abyssinian Campaigns” second have online.
Thanks again!
‘Tip and Run. The untold tragedy of the Great War in Africa’ by Paice is an excellent single volume survey. Covers the whole lot and not just East Africa.

Different war, Martin! Though as it looks very interesting, and it’s cheap second hand on Amazon, I might just buy it anyway! Thanks
My apologies, whenever I see “East Africa” I instantly assume WW1!
