The latest ship is the German Destroyer Z32 and my first attempt at masking tape.

ParticipantExcellent Ken. You have done great work on that model. I do like those splinter-type disruptive camouflages. A great opponent for your E-class models.
I’m curious: how did you do your highly effective shell splash or depth-charge explosion? Is that just dried glue? It looks great.
Those Narvik-class destroyers, and the contemporary O-class models, were originally issued by Skywave before Tamiya acquired the moulds in the 1990s. Unusually for Skywave, the models aren’t quite up to the high standard of some of the more recent kits by Tamiya (like your E class), Trumpeter and Skywave/Pit Road. But I don’t wish to invoke your curse!
Looking forward to seeing you stage a wargame in 1/700. ๐

ParticipantCheers Admiral Hawke,
I am currently working on a tutorial for the shell splashes, the one in the picture was the first one I did and I was trying various techniques on it. When I’ve done a few more and checked if the technique works for larger calibre shell splashes (which in this scale will be huge) I will reveal ๐
I have quite a big selection of kits in the pipeline and agree the Z Class and O Class from Tamiya are pretty basic but as a pretty inexperienced modeller, I went for the easy ones to start, that and cheapest as you get two ships in a box with these.
I still open the IBG model stuff I have and see the photo etch and close it up again !

ParticipantWonderful work. I’ve always wondered what the right color is for the blast bags on RN ships? I’ve seen white, light gray and dark gray.

It all depends to be fair, you will find pictures of Hood with light gray blast bags but this is specifically for her final voyage, I highly recommend the HMS Hood Association website for their help with colours.
