I’m from the skirmish pool, long rifle, muskets and mohawks,, black powder, donnybrook, …. There is almost more new rulesets out there than Ospreys! 😉
The minis are also exploding in range and scope. I can easily comb through several manufacturers now and make 60 man Ranger and French Marine forces without any repeats of models in any scale I choose!
…and Tricorns are cool! 😉
Lots of great stuff here!
My desk is currently buried with Peninsular War British Infantry, Zombicide, and various pulp and SciFi. It is also coated in dust and detritus from work and family, since I haven’t touched it since last winter.
I have entered Curt’s Anologue Painting Challenge this upcoming season. I have been prepping loads from my mountain of neglect all summer long. So GW LotR, Epic, 40k, and fantasy will be competing for table time with Peninsular War French, WW2, Mechwarrior 25mm infantry, Supers, Pulp, and new 15mm SciFi.
The Steiner and Kurita infantry and GW Epic have not been touched since the last Century! I actually forgot I had them!
I’d tag a snapshot for you, William, but I’m horribly inept at that. The images on Redoubts web page are very nice though!
I like that most of them have top knots and hair roaches. I’ll have to find somebody in the states that stock them. The canoes and village dweller sets would be very welcome in my collection as well!
I was not aware of redoubts’ natives, they look quite nice. 😉
I have seldom run into conflict with people who do not practice this hobby. I have found that there is a lot of military types who use the hobby as stress relief and that includes the modelers who do not game. The biggest issue is modern where a few friends who do game it do so in a very imagi-nation way.
I have seen and heard more snide remarks among hobbyists of all stripes to where x is better than y and z isn’t deserving of being called a “proper” game.
I myself was sorely tempted by wings of war/wings of glory but felt inclined to source model kits because it was cheaper and I would have to build it. My wife gifted me the X-wing game before I could begin the project. My kids and I have had so much fun with it that I doubt I will purchase any planes for either world war. Not because I don’t like them, but because we want larger rebel and imperial squadrons!
My kids really enjoy heroscape, WHFB, and Skylanders. I have also purchased the Napoleonic Waulkerloo files and they have assembled and fought with them.
Dice, miniatures/counters, some time to waste with good company is all that is needed. But watching my kids play skylanders….how cool would that be if we could incorporate that into our hobby!
I’m very glad Blastastic did very well on it’s first outing! Reports on the blogshere are really good. My bucket list has a trip to England on my retirement to include a visit to the tank museum and Salute, however SciFi is very near and dear to my wargaming heart!
I would enjoy kicking the tires on it, Howard! Running through the woods with a warclub is the definition of fun! 😉
I already appreciate seeing familiar screen names, and like the layout here!
I’ve a languishing blog and have been known as DarthBrom on other sites. My interests are ACW, Naps, SciFi, and pulp. My kids have been influenced and driven me towards Supers, fantasy, and Zombies.
I’m probably too busy with actual uniforms and family which also drains time and money. But that has also lead to the discovery of PDF and multipurpose use of minis. Because of my children we have actually used unlikely combos of French Naps vs not- Justice League, cowboys vs orcs, and all sorts of other bizarrematchups.
