ParticipantDamn J Gregory and I just used up my acrylic caulk for some repairs around the house š I knew I was making a mistake by doing what my wife wanted me to do.

ParticipantLove the bricks. The red face brick is the same as my house š
I especially like the position with the prone sniper on: looks like a pallet put onto a wall corner.

ParticipantI have an Eli Patoroch PDF template for a paper model ofĀ a GW Sentinel Walker. I haven’t made one yet, but when I do I plan to reinforce the legs with toothpicks or similar. If you are interested and cannot find the PDF I would be happy to mail it to you. To get an idea of the quality of Eli’s templates, take a look at the Aquila Lander I am busy building in my 40k Stuff thread here.
I think that paper/card legs will work if suitably reinforced and glued with superglue. Those are brave men knocking at our door. Let's go kill them!

ParticipantDo you see consistent growth in figure sales? Is that growth dependent on bringing out new ranges. IE: do you grow because you have the same grognards buying more new toys, or is there new blood buying into your older ranges constantly?

ParticipantMore Martian Empires? That is great news! But we also need more Tales of the Dragon KingsĀ (which, in my opinion, are the most beautiful figures EVER).

ParticipantAgree whole heartedly with Mr Harley. Theft is wrong no matter what, but for a member of such a niche hobby as ours (because that is what they must have been, or surely they wouldn’t have been at the show) to steal from a trader knowing full well that the majority of manufacturers do this for love of the hobby and not to get rich… well, that’s both disgusting and disappointing.

ParticipantSo the painting has started.Ā Stayed up late on Saturday night painting. I HATE painting vehicles, so I’m going to leave this aside for a while and work on scratchbuilding an Aquila Lander. I don’t need one, but it will be fun to build. Expect progress pics of the Lander in the next few days.

ParticipantAs far as i can see, the detailing is now sufficient, so this morning I took this beast outside, put it on the wheelie bin (my spraying station) and hit it with the black. Off to a kids birthday party now, so will spray the underside later this afternoom and start painting tonight.

ParticipantThanks OldBen1, but it is really not as hard as it looks; all it takes is a good template, the right materials and tools, and a bit of patience.
I am hoping to finish off the Baneblade tonight or tomorrow, so might start slapping paint onto these models this week.

ParticipantSo after a bit of a break I have gone back to the Baneblade. I’ve built the main gun and did a lot of detailing on the rear and sides of the turret (and of course forgot to take a photograph of those details). I am pondering what to put on the large open area on the top of the turret. I am thinking maybe some pulpit type thing with a book on. Any other ideas greatly appreciated.

ParticipantNo Mike, that is pure coincidence. This will be painted yellow with a black and white chequer-board pattern along the sides. I was hoping to make 4 or 5 taxis, but they are a lot of work for such small pieces, so I’ll have to see if I feel up to doing so many.

ParticipantI took a bit of a break from the Baneblade to start working on a taxi. I want to be able to put roads full of civilian vehicles for playing Necromunda.

ParticipantI have completed all the secondary weaponsĀ (scratchbuilt lascannons on hex turrets and bolters from the bits box on the sponsons- difficult to see here because they are already sprayed black). Now it is just detailing and the main gun to be done. Thankfully I have been doing rivets as I went, though.

ParticipantTracks done. I have now started on weapons and detailing the front of the tank. The end is in sight.
On the counter below the tank you can see my next project. I will be making 4 or 5 taxis (they are a paper template based on the Metrokab from Bladerunner). These will just be for scatter terrain because I always wonder where the civilian vehicles have all disappeared to when fighting it out on the tabletop.

ParticipantMy favourite. No name for this chap yet (suggestions would be great). He was kit-bashed by putting together a Mantic Veer-Myn body and left arm, a chainsaw from a GW Sentinel for a right arm, a GW Imperial GuardsmansĀ head and kitĀ (behind him, not pictured here), and a Space marine scout hand and bolter.
The idea is that he is a former Imperial Guard Sergeant who, having been corrupted by chaos, has mutated slightly and is working as a soldier for hire. I will be using him in a campaign I am planning where the players will be operating a mercenary group in the 40k universe (not with 40k rules though). They will have to hire and fire troops, balance the books, purchase equipment, etc, in addition to the actual combat missionsĀ (for anyone who has played the PC game Jagged Alliance, kind of like a 40k tabletop version of that game).

ParticipantI play with my stuff, but still like setting them up just to admire (and pester my wife with “Come see how cool this looks”).
This is especially true when a new terrain project is completed. Its all very nice to build enough jungle bases to cover the dining room table, but you need to see the terrain inhabited by guerillas to see what the effect will be on the wargame table.Ā And then, since the terrain is set up already, you might as well see what it looks like with some 19th century explorers. And dinosaurs. And Catachan jungle fighters.Ā So then you’ve seen them with the 28s, so you need to check them with 15s, so you put your 15s on… And so on and on. It’s a nice way to pass the time and helps motivate me to finish painting figures (I find it easy to motivate myself to build something, not so easy to motivate myself to paint figures sometimes).
So the short answer is, yes, I love setting things up just to look. But, at the same time, I can’t see myself ever making dioramas.

ParticipantI am building from a template that is meant to be used to assemble the model from cardstock. I am using both cardstock and this weird vinyl stuff that I found. I just need to adapt the templates to account for the thickness of the vinyl. I am following the template for the basic shape and adding my own ideas for the details, as well as bits from other paper templates.

ParticipantSo I got back from Christmas holiday yesterday. Have a few days before I need to go back to work, so I spent a few hours late last night and in the early hours of this morning working on my BanebladeĀ I built and fitted the rear hull, the turret, and did a little bit of detailing (rivets š)
The plan for tonight is to start working on the tracks.

ParticipantI have begun work on a scratchbuilt Baneblade. This is going to be a commisariat tank (so that it will fit in with any of my Imperial Guard forces), so paint scheme will be black, red and gold. Still a lot of work to do before I reach the painting stage, but I am happy with the basic construction so far.

I should start painting at some stage but I am really enjoying building.

ParticipantThanks for the kind words guys. I am going to paint the tank grey to match my Mordian Iron Guard. I only have 26 Mordian figures, so plan on turning them into a viable army by tooling them up with plenty of tanks and APCs (and scratchbuilding will allow me to do that without having to sell a kidney).
The tank was surprisingly quick to make: 4 nights of work, so I am hoping to make another one before we go away for our Christmas holiday.
