That’s great news and looking forward to seeing more SteelonSand 2mm posts!
CyrusParticipantGreat looking game Norm!
CyrusParticipantI’m tempted by these with their current 15% off sale!
CyrusParticipantGreat looking armies OB! The Steve Tibble book Crusader Armies is a great read.
CyrusParticipantThanks Norm, we find they give a good quick game and you don’t need huge numbers of figures to play.
CyrusParticipantNice DIY command board! I think Warbases sell a mdf version of these. They’re a fun set of rules.
CyrusParticipantNice work OB! A good mix of ranges, I really like the Persian cavalry too. The new Z range Museum Miniatures Persian cavalry are very nice.

CyrusParticipantLovely work on the Late Persians OB!
CyrusParticipantThanks OB, they’re great figures and such a versatile set.
CyrusParticipantThanks Matt.
CyrusParticipantThanks OB, they’re great figures Forged in Battle, the banners are all LBM.
Cheers
Cyrus
CyrusParticipantThanks for the review OB, I have downloaded these and his Tree of Battles WotR rules, and have a hard copy of Comitatus, all interesting rules.
CyrusParticipantThese are the lovely Forged in Battle Sassanid heavy infantry:

Cyrus
CyrusParticipantThanks Konstantinos, they’re nice, Legio Heroica and AB Figures. I have some Forged in Battle Sassanids on order so will post some of those when I finish painting them.
Cheers
Cyrus
CyrusParticipantThanks Tony, Mike and Geof, the Sumerians are fun in any scale but it can take years to collect and paint the armies. I bought the Kindle edition of this book on Sumerian armies recently:
https://www.amazon.com/shepherd-protects-their-flock-neolithic/dp/8893277832
There’s quite a lot of information and nice illustrations but my biggest gripe with it is the formatting in the Kindle edition, is terrible and makes it hard to read. A hard copy or a different reader would be better.
CyrusParticipantThanks Geof, I have quite a few Bronze Age armies, so there’s always more chariots to paint. There are a lot of differences and variety even say just with Mycenaean chariots.

CyrusParticipantVer nice work! I really like the Redoubt chariot.
CyrusParticipantThanks Jeff, it should look good, Indians vs Late Persians, two really colourful armies.
CyrusParticipantThanks Geof, will do!
Cheers
Cyrus
CyrusParticipantThanks gents, the figures all 25/28mm, Pacto is the MeG equivalent of DBA, up to 4000 points 20-30 bases of figures. I find it a good size for a solo game.

Cyrus
CyrusParticipantTerrain that looks good does make a game more interesting but a lot of tournaments suffer from the dreaded green felt or lurid green boards!
CyrusParticipantThanks Tony and Geof, I’d like to refight Megiddo at some stage but have a lot of painting to do for the Syrians, Canaanites and Mitanni. Fortunately I bought most of my Foundry figures years ago when they were more reasonably priced.
CyrusParticipantWe played our Early Mycenaean Chariots Rampant game yesterday, it was good fun but rather one sided, anyway good to get the figures out and roll some dice!
More pics and a report:

CyrusParticipantThanks gents, hopefully they’ll perform in our game. Jeff the OG aren’t as nice as the Foundry or Redoubt figures but they’re still quite good and paint up well. They have separate packs of spearmen with tower and figure of eight shields. I don’t like their infantry command much, the Greek pack has them all in Dendra armour.
CyrusParticipantThanks gents, I don’t have any specific solo rules, I just use the standard LR rules with scenario specific rules.
Cheers
Cyrus
CyrusParticipantThanks gents. I don’t know about the hammer of Thor but axes were used by the Etruscans! According to the D’Amato & Salimbeti Osprey book, The Etruscans (p.42):
’The axe was mainly replaced by the sword, but it was still a special feature in the Etruscan army. It was employed by infantry and some types of cavalry, and two-handed axes were used by distinct units.’
CyrusParticipantThanks willz, no worries. All the Victrix Republican Roman sets are great figures. I’m using their cavalry, which have Etruscan helmet options, for my late Etruscans. Here’s a couple of Victrix and Aventine command stands:
https://bucellarii.blogspot.com/2021/09/late-etruscan-command.html
CyrusParticipantThanks Guy, Xyston ranges in 15mm are hard to beat. I think it is just a burnt tree stump, there were bushfires here in 2003 and the whole area was burnt out.
CyrusParticipantThanks Geof, they’re fun to paint, most of their cavalry sets have the same basic poses.
CyrusParticipantThanks willz, Sane Max and Geof, the Chariots Rampant games are a lot of fun. Sane Max the figures are all 28mm and the mods are based on a Chariots Rampant article in WSS 82. This has light and heavy chariots with each model worth three wounds and various upgrades allowed. You can get a pdf of the magazine for not much from the publisher’s website and it’s a great way to start gaming with biblical armies.
Cheers
Cyrus
CyrusParticipantJustin Swanton, who is the editor of Slingshot, has an interesting book on how the Triplex Acies worked, I remember a Slingshot article about it. Tricky to replicate on the wargames table with a set of rules!
CyrusParticipantNice Republican Romans! Forged in Battle have some great 15mm ranges, in true 15mm rather than 18mm. I have some of their Blemmye which I’ve combined with some Donnington miniatures figures.
CyrusParticipantThanks willz, I have a ridiculous number of ancient armies, more than happy to share pics!
CyrusParticipantNo worries. I’ve painted some of the Victrix Spanish cavalry as well:
https://bucellarii.blogspot.com/2019/02/iberian-cavalry.html
CyrusParticipantI reckon the Xyston range is hard to beat:
I really like the Corvus Belli Spanish too, some have been rereleased now as part of PSC Ultracast Pacto Carthaginian army:
CyrusParticipantFantastic work there Martin, really beautiful 15mm!
CyrusParticipantThanks Steve and Geof, I reckon the onagers would have been a handful! The Sumerians are a fun army, here’s some game reports (Chariots Rampant and MeG), in case you’re interested:
