durecellrabbitParticipant
They’re like a smaller version of Wayland and the other stores that have been buying into the miniature game manufacturer side although I think North Star got there first.
What’s this now? Does Wayland Games manufacture miniature wargame products of its own these days?
They’ve recently setup a game making half called Warcradle Studio which bought Wild West Exodus and some of Spartan Games’ games.
They’ve already done some sort of release for Wild West Exodus and I got an email recently offering that giant ice berg aircraft carrier from Dystopian Wars.
durecellrabbitParticipantI’d say maybe North Star is my grey area. They’re in kinda a weird place what with the store selling other company’s products, their vassal miniature manufacturers and the partnership with Osprey for “official” minis for rules that don’t care about official minis.

durecellrabbitParticipantI grew up on GW’s multi part plastic kits so I have a great deal of affection for them and will almost always go for plastic kits over metal minis.
durecellrabbitParticipantI’m still on board with painting more ancients. I also need to get my 17th century Polish done.
durecellrabbitParticipantI don’t feel I could consider Warlord Games indie and not Battlefront. They’re the same to me.
One thing that comes to mind is Warlord’s new Samurai game. I was on Facebook when they announced it and started the Facebook group for it. I watched its membership count increase far beyond any of the older Samurai rule groups I’m a member of in one day. That very much created a “I was a fan of this before it was cool” feeling in me that people describe when something they like becomes mainstream.
durecellrabbitParticipantGames I played in 2017:
1. L’Art De La Guerre. As I mentioned before I’ve really been enjoying this game and it got me into ancients.
2. Warhammer 40k 8th Edition. After not having played 40k for a while I thought it would be nice to try the new edition. Our first run got bogged down by all the special rules each unit has but I think the game deserves a 2nd smaller go at some point.
3. Dropfleet Commander. This is on the list because it’s a bit unusual from what I normally play. The space combat and spaceships where fairly interesting but I’m not sure if I like the transportation objective focus. Guess that come with the name though.
Games I want to play in 2018.
1. L’Art De La Guerre as I’m enjoying the game I obviously want to play more of it.
2. By Fire and Sword. I’ve got a fairly large collection of Swedes and I’m working on Polish. I’d really like to get the models on the table soon.
3. Too the Strongest. I’ve hearing a lot of good things about these rules I would love to try them out sometime. I don’t have a grid mat though.
durecellrabbitParticipantThat’s a bit of a nuisance. I’m going to have to pay more attention to payment options in future rather than defaulting to Paypal.
durecellrabbitParticipantI’m really enjoying these rules. This is the ruleset to finally get me to make an ancient army.
durecellrabbitParticipantI got 19 but I might have missed a few. The number has greatly increased in the few years since the games I play expanded from just those made by GW.
durecellrabbitParticipantI don’t really have a local gaming store. There is GW and independent store in a nearby city but when a return bus ticket costs more than the courier postage needed when buying spray cans and fuel + parking costs more than ordinary postage it’s hard to consider them local. Of course they also suffer from not stocking products that suit my niche interests except for when I go through periods of enthusiasm for 40k.
durecellrabbitParticipantI’ve just started getting into ancients so my favourite army is also my first army, Sassanid Persia.
durecellrabbitParticipantI’ve heard of him but have not followed him. Honestly I don’t really pay much attention to anyone in the hobby as an authority figure.
durecellrabbitParticipantBut the article states that flames are darker at the top, those you did are lighter? Have I mis-understood?
The source of her flames is from her foot. So the trail gets colder as it moves away from her.
durecellrabbitParticipantI have used the article Private Snafu linked to do the flames on Hotaru. Just follow it carefully, it is a bit time consuming but I felt it was worth it in the end.
durecellrabbitParticipantI mostly stick to history podcasts but I have tried several hobby podcasts. The D6 Generation is the only one I’ve stuck with. The quiz at the start was quite discouraging when I started listening to them but grew on me. I like the broad range of the hobby they cover as it lets me know about boardgame .etc which I don’t usually pay attention to. I like that they try to stay polite even if they don’t like what they review so it doesn’t turn into a hate fest. Lastly I find listening to them talk about their hobby time encouraging as I paint and the length of their episodes also goes well with an evening of painting.
durecellrabbitParticipantI was also interested in finding out more information so I went to look at r/askhistorians to see if there was anything about it there. Someone had already asked how accurate it was and one of the flaired users on Late Bronze Ages had posted about it on r/history here.
The summary is it might be true but there is good reason to be sceptical.
