ParticipantI recently found your YT channel while researching Tilea for a Mordheim-style game I am setting up in Miragliano. The idea is to have various noble and merchant houses fighting it out in a not-so-blasted city. Miragliano seems a natural choice for this place as it is a trade city and is close to Skavenblight allowing for more than Tilean houses.
I was sent here by a buddy (thanks Darby).
I’d be curious if you have have found any really good sources for non-battlefield, street-fighting style minis suitable for Tilea?
Thanks,
-Eli

ParticipantLovely paint work all around. Nice to see my Ikwen sneaking in there.

ParticipantOh, and the accomplished in a single spray by using a Rust-Oleum Multicolored Textured paint. Cannot give you a name as they do not even list one on the can and leave it to the can’s lid to tell the tale.

ParticipantIf by “PA” you mean Pulp Alley, then yes 🙂

ParticipantSeems it has all been said here.
For me, I just see it all as a break from the wonder of science fiction and a slip toward an expectant reality of science fiction. We are less naive than we once were and the majority of designs are reflecting that. Sure there is the influence of media but that has always been there and it is also what made the figures of the before look the way they did. Remember when Aliens came out and suddenly it was all space grunts? Now we have future tech that is seek, clean, efficient and cutting edge and the sculpting has followed that.

ParticipantNot really. It’s done on a pretty thick piece of plywood. If anything it’s warping a bit under its own weight, but nothing substantial.

ParticipantThe Facebook group exists not because of the expectation that folks should be on FB but because, as mentioned, a large core of very vocal 15mm players already existed there. Nobody should HAVE to be on any board, FB, here, or otherwise.
Much of the FB group growth, as I understand it, stemmed from growing disappointment in TMP. I realize that this forum was also created out of that very same frustration but, let’s face it, a lot of people already have FB accounts and it is an easy migration. An added benefit of the FB group is reduced anonymity. There simply isn’t as much false face presence there.
I am not trying to sway anyone’s minds here. If you prefer The Wargames Website, then use it. Please use it. A lot of work went into making it happen. I will say that much less of the FB group’s activity is manufacturer driven than you might think. There is regular discussion of the hobby and sharing of projects there.
I would say that the players are going to be the best folks to grow this forum. Post here. Direct people here. Link to posts here. Really keep the dialog going. As one of the manufacturers out there (Loud Ninja Games) I can say it’s tough trying to post to every corner of the internet. FB accounts for a huge amount of my traffic, so I cannot ignore it. TMP still accounts for much of it. We may miss one now and again, so if we do, drop us a line and I’m sure we can make sure to post something up HERE. It may be a cut and paste of something you saw someplace else, but news pieces tend to be that way.

ParticipantWell this is what I get for not checking to get notified of replies.
Lots of awesome words folks.
I am glad that the wisdom behind the Chuhuac is apparent. I did a lot (maybe too much) of thinking on those guys. Little details like why is their torso armored the most on the top and having the bike steered by the tail are all part of the crazy endeavor of trying to work with raptor anatomy, The only concession I gave them in anatomy was a greater range of motion in the shoulder and more developed forelimbs.
I tend to never be satisfied with rule of cool alone even if it does factor in. It doesn’t hurt that I am pretty good at PSB.

ParticipantThese were made by a guy who seems to have disappeared from forums and such. Sad as I had other work to be done 🙂

ParticipantI have an almost pathological need to make aliens with anatomy’s that I can explain.
In the case of the dual eyes, the Ikwen have never developed complex eyes. One set provides close in, focused vision. The other provides long distance vision. this multiple eye configuration is common across the various species of their planet.
The poses were based on images I had seen in pictures of militia fighters in places like Africa and the Middle East. There will likely be more poses in future releases after the primary troops have been rolled out.

ParticipantAn interesting reference. I imagine it likely do to the odd, familiar, yet different sort of representation and tribal attire. The crests might also evoke all the feathers from Tekumel.

The Ikwen should be released in early March. no hard date yet, but look for them at the top of next month.

ParticipantMany mixed species forces, especially bad guy aliens, usually have higher species in charge of lower ones.

Eli Arndt
ParticipantYou might want to make special note in your supplement for doing forces with mixed species.
These could simulate anything from the Federation to the Dominion to the Covenant. It could also work for the Tyranids.
Instead of having one army with singe set of alien traits you would assign different roles in the army to different alien types.

ParticipantHow about Anthros as a class for all humanoid animal alien types? Subclasses become pretty much a list of plugins for different animal types.

ParticipantMight I suggest a useful way to cover lots of aliens in a small space?
With each category provide a list of quick options that alter the theme slightly. All you would need is a simple chart under each heading and your basic listing for Space Warriors could be morphed into Turlans, Orcs, Klingons, or any other variation on the warriors.
This could be repeated through several themes and allow you to cover a universe full of aliens in one book.

ParticipantI cannot take credit for that batrep. That was done by one of the other contributors at the time. For a brief bit I had others spinning tales of Alcovia. Sad truth is that most of the gaming in the setting WAS NOT done by me.
There is much to do. If I get some fights in for Alcovia, I’ll definitely post them.

ParticipantJack,
I do hope to get back into this.
I’ve got several models and a load of minis to try to get started with.
Thanks for reading it and investing in Alcovia’s conflict.

ParticipantI like these. The painted examples are very Space Opera with the white. Look like old school 70s/80s Sci-fi.
-Eli

ParticipantOh wow. Expanded foam? Don’t see that much these days. May be super old school then.

ParticipantJoe, those characters fit in perfectly.
My leagues range from heroes with pluck and skill to mystics.
The Investigators are all pretty much normal humans. Omar and P.D. have minor abilities that border on the paranormal.
The Gold Lama is full on mystic arts from the ancient East.
Zakaar and his band are pure Lost World fantasy with an undead Lizardman prince and a boy with an ancient Atlantean magic stone.
The major advantage I find in Pulp Alley is that the abilities are, for the most part, open thematically. One of our leagues features an evil scientist who has as a Shooting stat and Mind blast all themed to his Mentallo Sphere – a psionic weapon.

ParticipantPulp Alley is such a wonderful rules set. I play it with my youngest daughter most of the time. So many options for characters and figures.

ParticipantI have more just no group shots of them yet. A lot of unpainted Pulp lead still.

ParticipantThis picture shows the weapons concepts used fort he Ikwen. The curved blades are known collectively as Hooli and come in a variety of designs from shorter dagger length all the way to two-handed, hafted versions.

ParticipantCreating weapons out of their bodies would be cool. You could say that they can configure the components elements of their body to manipulate an energy source in their body in different ways,

ParticipantI like what I am seeing so far.
The design is suitably alien but has enough familiar notes to make it accessible. I appreciate that you didn’t go full centaur and also how hard it is to avoid that. The mind likes to go to familiar shapes and we’ve all had centaurs drilled into your brains since childhood.
As much as I hate the movies, I think a machine race that actually had character and personality in the machines like the Transformers might be cool (not actually transformers).
Pretty much every machine race that gets made is a cold, faceless or evil looking death machine. We could use something with a bit more personality. For your third faction, a bio race is a good seller, but has been done to death. A cyber race is a bit more unique and not well represented.
