Tanks is a skirmish game made by Battlefront/GF9.  A free copy of the rules is available here.  Its a very quick and simple game as you can see when reading the rules.  As it is made by the same company (and using the same miniatures) as Flames of War, it’s a 15mm scale game.

The lack of scenery on the table is because we tried to recreate, as best as possible, that area of the battlefield around Prokhorovka.

The T-34s we used were made by Plastic Soldier Company while the German Tanks were Zvezda with the exception of a Panther which is part of the Tanks starter set.

Just a reminder that the re-arranged Hammerhead show is taking place in about four weeks.

I was talking to Paul from Kallistra (who does most of the organising for the show) and he told me that most of the games and traders have confirmed that they will be attending.

If you’re going to be there, pop over and say hello to me at the Battle of Prokhorovka game I’m running with my friend and son.

here we are two years ago when we did a Korean War game using the One Hour Wargames rules.

I’m a relative newcomer to putting on participation games but, next month, will be doing my fourth year at Hammerhead.  If anyone is going, pop over to the Battle of Prokhorovka game using the Tanks rules and say hi.

Here’s 1st Worcestors’ box set up during Gazala: http://www.worcestershireregiment.com/wr.php?main=inc/h_1942tob & The Free French at Bir Hakeim here http://www.avalanchepress.com/Hakeim70.php Neither are Knightsbridge of course, but should give you some idea.

Obviously I’ve had to use that photo as the basis for an objective marker.

Have you read Barrie Pitt’s Crucible of War books? It’s been a while since I read them, but I’m sure there was something in there about the box layout … I’ll try and have a look tonight, although my record of being able to find things has been very poor lately ….

Thanks for that.  I’ve not come across the Barrie Pitt books but will have to look out for them as my research is still at quite an early stage (and I’ve two years).  At the moment, I’m reading The Tank War by Mark Urban which covers 5RTR (the armoured unit I’m using) from 1940 onwards.  Hopefully, this will cover Gazala in some detail.  In addition, I’m hoping to visit Thoresby Hall (not that far from where I live) which is the home of the 107th (South Nottinghamshire Hussars Yeomanry) Field Regt RA which was almost completely wiped out at Knightsbridge – hopefully there will some details there.

Thanks for that,  I had already come across those images.  As you say, lacking a definite plan, I’ll have to use them to give me some idea and improvise.
