Yep, I think the dark brown base worked well with the static grass. Wasn’t intended though.

Yes the ships wheel or the column is spare parts from the Atalanta. In fact the Atalanta is next up for painting. And is the type of small merchant ship the the Devils Maw prays on.

The tan/bronze doors are laptop keys. I always seem to have laptop keys in my scratch build box.

Funnily  enough I didn’t intend the mat to look like that. I only noticed it was all ruffed after I took the pics. Then did like it looked like waves

Blimey, you guys post quick.  Well the tomb was really quick and easy. The Earth is simply brown emulsion base with dark green static grass. It was the ship that has taken the time. Started it months ago and only just finished it.

I have settled upon diy type ready mixed filler,

That is what I tend to used. Sometimes a cheap premixed tub does the job. However, being a decorator I have a van full of various fillers and Troupet do a professional range of fillers. Murex is especially good, goes off rock hard. Plus you can get a range of really flexible fillers. Not that I’ve had a need for these.

Yeah, I’ve used miliput without problems. Cracking is usually to do with drying out and movement. But have never had used clay. However, I do find miliput and green sticky and hard to use.

Yes, bang on metal 10×12 cm. Preferably UK postage as there is a bit of weight involved, no extra for that.

    Chapter one

The Lazarus Wave Aftermath – Outpost Alpha 7

Engineer team leader, M.K.Keelar, personal log – Outpost Beta Alpha 7

“I don’t know how I survived, but it’s bad….I….I’m in a bad way…..It was some sort of Wave and when it hit, victims underwent dramatic changes to their physiology both internally and externally. Aside from fundamentally changing the composition of their internal organs, the high intensity plasma wave was strong enough to fuse metal to skin. In many cases, personal items such as watches and jewelry burned through the skin and became permanently embedded in the victim.

Perhaps the most unfortunate victims of this fusing event were us engineers……..I just hope the anti matter generators are okay…..If they lose containment……..Hopefully help will come soon. As yet I haven’t been able to reach the Lazarus base for assistance.”

    Message ends………..

The team’s Raven lands on the upper most landing pad and the team make a quick exit. It soon becomes apparent that things aren’t as they should be. Visible damage to some builds and a lack of personal made McCallum suspicious. He orders Annie to watch the still unconscious scientist as the rest of the team split in two to start an organised search.

“That’s big “D”. Says Woods. Looking at the big yellow sky hauler. “But where’s Al?”

    “Al?” Asks Faux.

“He’s the pilot, good mate of mine” says Woods.

They splinter off and Mila and Faux take the first building. The room was dark but Mila could easy make out the pipes and various electric items. Some sort of utility out building. Also the interior had sustain minor damage somehow. Then suddenly out of the darkness a figure came at Faux. All he saw was the huge wrench that come at him. He ducked as the wrench bounced off a metal pipe with a clang. Then another swing, this time the wrench smashed a computer console.

“RDF! Stop! Stop!” Cried Faux, but no response from the assailant as another blow was aimed at Faux’s head. He reached down for his pistol as in the confines of the room he couldn’t bring his Heckler-Enfield assault rifle to bear. Then a shot rang out. The figure groaned and staggered back into the gloomy interior. They came again! This time four more shots rang out from Mila’s pistol.

“This man shouldn’t been alive let a long walking around”. Says McCallum  as he examines the body. The pistol rounds all found their mark centre of the chest. Which made quite a lot of damage. But the rest of the dead engineer showed bad injuries all over.

    Meanwhile………

Woods and Dyke take the warehouse area. The area seemed clear then both men heard what appeared to be a high pitch screaming. Then it appeared….a flaming great face that seemed to hover and fly. At first it ignored the soldiers and continued in a calm and gentle fashion. It flew past then it changed, it seemed of sensed them. Turning aggressive and aggravated, it charged right at them. Dyke wasted no time in responding to the threat. He clicked off the safety to his minigun and fired! The face exploded in a hail of shot.

“What the hell was that!” Said Woods

“No idea, that’s get back” relied Dyke

Both were on their way back when a figure steps out of the MHU and open fires.

“Have some of that…bloody zombies!” Cries Big Al.

    “We’re not zombies!” Shouts Woods.

“Woods is you? Thank god. Now what’s going on?” Says Big Al.

    “Thought you could tell me”.

As the team regroups on the lower Landing Pad. They hear more screaming, more movement.

“Oh no, there’s more” Says Dyke.

With that they soon sight what appears to be more flaming faces and more possessed personal.

    To be continued…….

    One Year Later………

Proxima B – RDF Control Lazarus base.

Lt Col Raine looks across at the top secret Lazarus labs. From his position in the tower of the small RDF base control centre. The UAC took control of the transwarp gate over a year ago and now have been running multiple tests and studies into it. What they were exactly doing was unknown, but Raine didn’t care. His job was to guard the base and boost the UAC security. He turns to the duty controller.

.“Has Major McCallum found that scientist yet?”

“We’ve still got a good fix on this position. He and his team should be there soon” says the RDF controller. He continues. “Why don’t the UAC send one of their own to look for their missing scientist?”

“Major McCallum volunteered. He wanted to get out and stretch his legs”.

    Somewhere in the outer lands

McCallum’s Raven comes in low over the terrain. Mainly because the pilot wants a closer look at the fallen mech from a long forgotten battle. The huge metal monster still lay rotting where it had fallen. Inside the RDF team of 5 bobbed about with the flight. They all stretched their necks to get a look at the scenery.

“Was that one of the last category class 5’s Mechs?” Asks Staff Sergeant Woods. The teams tech guy and the only other member to of been with McCallum during The Genesis Findings.

“Yeah, it was brought here from Earth to stop the last PHR invasion. They failed”. Says Corporal Dyke, the newest member of McCallum’s team.

“Vehicle located, its our scientist and where ever he’s going he’s in a huge hurry”. Says Annie the RDF pilot. “I’ll get him on the comms, channel open”.

“This is Major McCallum, RDF. You are ordered to stop your vehicle immediately”

No response.  McCallum said again and still the same.

“Trooper Meila, disable our target” orders McCallum.

“Yes sir”. She loads an EMP round into her guass luncher and fires out of the aircraft.

It was a direct hit and the vehicle soon stops dead. The Raven quickly lands and the team of 5 waste no time in exiting the vehicle.

“Where are you going?” Shouts McCallum throwing his arms in the air as he sees the scientist emerge from the stolen APC looking vexed.  “There’s nothing out here, why didn’t you stop?”

“I’M NOT GOING BACK” cries the scientist. “You don’t know what she’s doing? She needs to be stopped” and with that he raises a high power assault rifle and fires!

Fortunately, he wasn’t very proficient in the use of small arms. The shots go all over the place. Sending the team flying to the ground for cover. The magazine soon runs dry and the last member of the squad Trooper Faux returns fire. The less lethal round hits the scientist, sending him reeling backwards.

“Nice” Says Woods. “That’ll have him sleeping like a baby”.

The team quickly secure the weapon and the stunned scientist.

“Load him in the casualty bay and let’s go”. Says McCallum

Less then a minute into the flight Annie picks up something on the scanner. Some sort of energy wave. Before she could do anything it hits the dropship. Unknown to the occupants the wave had dissipated in strength due to range. But minor damage is sustained.

“What was that? Some sort of weapon?……I’m reading multiple warnings on my HUD. But the aircraft is flying okay”. Says Annie.

“Can we safely make the base?” Asks McCallum .

Annie just shrugs as she continues to assess the damage.

“ Alright there’s an engineering outpost on the way. We will put down there and get them to check us over before we continue on to the base”. Orders McCallum .

Annie nods as she makes a small course correction.

The team all settle down for the trip to the outpost. Both Troopers Faux and Meila yawn in unison and Dyke closes his eyes.

“Oh, well that’s that bit of excitement over” Says Woods. “I suppose it’ll soon be back to the monotony of sitting around in the rec room again”.

“Don’t knock it Woods……” Says McCallum.

“It won’t be long before all hell breaks loose I expect!”

    To be continued…….

Found this on IMDB John Wick trivia. Reminded me of my background for 3SOME. At the time I made up the animal cruelty crime, didn’t know people went to jail for it.

The story is loosely inspired by an incident in Texas involving former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, who wrote Lone Survivor, about his fireteam’s ordeal during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan in 2005. Luttrell was given a yellow labrador puppy, whom he named DASY, after the members of his fireteam. On April 1, 2009, at about 1:00 a.m., Luttrell was awakened by a gunshot, and saw four men drive away. DASY was dead in his yard from a gunshot wound. He armed himself with two 9mm Beretta pistols and chased the men through four counties in his truck until police apprehended them. They taunted Luttrell, threatened to kill him, and indicated no remorse for their actions. They were later sentenced for animal cruelty. Luttrell stated later, “I spared them, because I’ve killed enough people already.”

That reminds me of the story of Paddy Mayne. During WW2 when David Stirling was forming the SAS. Paddy Mayne had a Jack Russel Terrier. When he was away his commanding officer, who hated Mayne killed his dog. When Mayne returned he was so furious he beat up his commanding office (Mayne was not a man to be crossed). He was due to be court marshalled. When Stirling jumped up and said I’ll take him. Who was looking for men just like Mayne for the special forces.

Interesting because reading through this thread seems to me. That the general consensus is that we wargamers like to see pics right? For reasons illustrated by the Sherman and the shape of the turret comment goes to prove this. Mike comments and I quote…

“boggles my mind that someone would go to that effort to get a product to market then not bother with the final step of letting people actually see what it is you are selling.”

    and also says…..

”I don’t get the notion that someone with an e-commerce site they have likely paid for, and sculpts they have likely paid for, and stock they have paid for that has come from moulds they have paid for does not want to sell anything”.

Which I get and understand and makes complete sense. Then Blackhat comes along as says……

”I am working on a new website but that won’t have photos either because I am flat out fulfilling orders and don’t have the time to take photos or the incentive to to get new orders”.

That too makes sense. But if you don’t need to put up photos, who is buying? I’m pretty sure this is the same for GZG and some others. So, wargamers are buying without photos. Maybe the majority of us are familiar with what manufactures sell and are reoccurring consumers. But what about new products? Clearly the manufacturers who don’t have photos are turning over enough sales for whatever reason.

Yep, frustrating isn’t it. I understand there’s a lot of faff involved but it reduces the chance of sales. A bad or an unpainted Pic is better then no pic at all.

GZG have been like it for years. Clearly don’t need to advertise their minis.

I’m quite the fan of Ral Partha. I’ve been meaning to get some Gargoyles and those certainly look good. They definitely look like they’ve just come alive and have unstuck themselves from a side of a cathedral. Ral Partha’s website doesn’t showcase many painted models. For people like me who exhibit zero imagination find it hard to imagine the models in painted form. So it’s nice to see them in all glory.

Nice scenery too, is the nightclub all scratch built? It look the business and laid out well too. The cut away offices work really well. Looks good and no need to lean over the table and peer inside at an awkward angle. To try and place your miniature. Not to cluttered  inside, plenty of room to place miniatures. All in all very good.

The last AAR did take a little longer. But concluded quicker then what I would have assumed. The action starts back at J’s bar and the team spot the target vehicle. They disembark and Iain moves in to sabotage it. But as a repeat of when he was first there. Glubbits and Martin Once come out with a couple of goons and catch him red handed again!

    24-B2923-D-F4-F0-4-B0-D-81-AB-46-C39-D34-CA10
    1-B1-B7-CF3-ADF2-4287-8658-65-D521669-F03

A fire fight quickly erupts and Kane, still true to form drops a goon. Once and Glubbits take off in their vehicle but getting peppered in shots and the truck losing two structure points (SP). Once shots at Tom as they drive pass and he gets suppressed. The one remaining goon makes a dash for the escort truck shooting at Bob as he did so. Bob shots back but both miss each other.

As Glubbits and Once go speeding off down the street, Kane gets a shot off and hits. Unfortunately only having a small arm means the truck has 1 armour. Being a civi vehicle usually doesn’t. So it’s able to make a save.

    839-BF921-304-A-4-D3-E-BA6-D-64-D5-D930-B17-E

Glubbits and Once are now escaping but Iain manages to activate and lands a hit, it’s armour failing and doesn’t make the save. Reducing it SP to zero the truck is wracked. Glubbits and Once exit and this is when Kane takes down Martin Once. Cracking shot I may add, two 6s and a 5.

Looks like Glubbits will have his day but the goon in the escort truck. Comes to his rescue. Glubbits jumps in and they take off up the adjacent street. But the truck gets peppered in shots the whole time. Leaving it with only 1 SP a broken MG and Glubbits taking a hit and getting knocked out. Despite all this the truck remains running. Bob, all this time has got behind the wheel of the blue 4×4 and pursed Glubbits and the goon. Picking up Kane in the process.

Tom and Iain seeing everyone else take off in vehicles look around for one of their own. Then see a couple of 4x4s for sale in the scape yard area. While they “borrowed one” Kane and Bob flooring after Glubbits. Kane shooting while Bob driving but unfortunately misses all shots.

    0234917-D-1-ACD-4-C07-BBAB-DD4724-AEAD48

Iain and Tom make slighter slower progress catching up with Glubbits. Since Tom forgot to take off the for sale sign. Which was obscuring Iain’s vision so he got a minus to movement. Glubbits’ goon took a wrong turn and into a dead end just as Bob and Kane arrived, then Iain and Tom shortly after.

    5084-B38-E-3-F9-F-482-D-94-F0-4748-A39-FA768

Tom opens up wracking Glubbits truck and reducing its SP to none. With Glubbits knocked out and the goon outnumbered his resolve fails and he gives up.

Mission successful…….they stoped the mind control wave from being deployed. Thus saving the world! They captured the Scarlet Pimpernel. Who as it turns out to of been their top boss Director Glubbits. With only two casualties. Losing Hess early on meant I couldn’t explore this character as much as I would have liked.

The game took a few different turns which I had to adapt to. The end wasnt anticipated at all. Kane, was rolling some top dice which resulted in a number of goons going down. The vehicle rules worked really well. I certainly would like to do more Startport Scum with a more focus on vehicles.

That’s it for now, hope you all enjoyed…..
