I have picked up this issue for the Eastern Front rules, I’ve been to the download site but can’t find an army list for the Polish, am I missing something or just being blind/stupid?

    Andy

Just checking back through my notes, there should be lists there (well, xl spread sheets) available for download on the TTG site for these. Can you confirm that you can get to those? and is it just pols you were wanting? I only ask this as Dave Tuck – the author – didn’t provide one for the Poles. But I can ask him!

    Hi folks

I haven’t a copy of the digital one to hand but I’m informed that the rules code is on the welcome editorial page. The print vesion has a ticket stuck lightly onto the front cover.

Sorry for the delay: weekend at Salute etc etc

Any idea when it’s on the shelf?

I haven’t had mine yet Andrew so I’m guessing – at best – later on this week – maybe Friday – or early next week.

Mr. Picky wants to know what a Comet is doing at Falaise.

It does seem, er… unlikely (without Time Travel…). I’ll have to speak to that Sutherland bloke

Looks excellent. Is it a pdf download code or a physical book John?

It’s a pdf download so that the digital subscribers can get a copy too!

By the way, I was looking at that shot and a narcissistic moment of realisation swept over me…

In the lower picture in the “Policeman’s Lot” page grab, there are three or four 15mm figures on the central base which I’d rather forgotten about. When I was generating that set of models (for a Slammers force, I’ll confess) about ten years ago I had a lot of 15mm ‘civilians’ to paint: certainly the thick end of 60 or 70. So – needless to say – I was looking to find a way to cut my work load when I came across a set of figures I’d had since the mid eighties for a Traveller campaign I ran (back in the day). They were already painted so I thought I’d press them into service. “A few less to paint!” I thought.

The idea at the time was that we should all paint a figure of ourselves so… The overweight chap in the red teeshirt with his hands in the air (holding a pistol) is me, wearing a crash helmet I owned at the time (a white and blue one). The chap to his left in the black jacket is a self portrait of Kevin Dallimore with a tiny SELWG club badge on his leather jacket and a yellow Sony Walkman on his belt… Mind you the lady in the short skirt was… well not someone I ever knew!

These represent sure signs of having too much time on our hands 35 years ago…

    Thanks all round folks!

Looks like a good issue this month. Really pleased to see Hellfire getting some ‘in print’ third party lovin’.Jim does a great job of promoting the game but this will give it greater exposure.

I have another scenario from Mr Webster which I will try and get in to the mag in a wee while 🙂

No sweat Dark Horse. I do have some news of possible interest, though:

What we have coming out in the next issue is an announcement of a new deal for digital back copies running back ten years for as little as £2 a copy on a “your’s to keep” deal: watch out for that one!

Do you reckon you can carve off the greaves? I plan on painting those on mine as boiled leather.

Having had a good look at mine I’d probably use some soft, ‘brush on’ filler (Delux Materials do a nice one) and paint them  as trouser bottoms. Might leave the odd one in greaves but not many, I’ll admit.

My one big problem is that the hobbits are too “middle agey” for Oathmark’s quasi-dark age esthetic. Too well equipped, too. I am thinking of filling in those chainmail shirt margins with greenstuff. I will probably shorten the hobbits’ pikes and turn them into spears.

Good points. I probably wouldn’t do the chainmail but the pikes are – for me – definitely too long and the helmets a bit over the top. But then they are described as ‘militia’…

Stature wise, for me they are perfect: I’m pretty sick of the ‘comedy’ halflings from other manufacturers. I mean: they don’t all have to look like me (on the gut front…)

Thing is, does anyone really care what this particular middle aged white man thinks about the hobby?

Well …yes. You run a forum about wargaming. So it’s quite natural that wargaming magazines would ask you to talk about it, sometimes. As magazines about music, culture, etc. ask musicians and actors to write about what they do; and political magazines ask politicians to write things, etc. That’s how it works. Wargaming is no different.

If ever there was an indicator of how a single magazine can’t please all of the people all the time (thanks John Lydgate) this is it!

I asked Mike, same as I have asked a swathe of other folks in the industry: people who have, as I put it to him, made a significant contribution to the hobby, because I want their slant. For those who don’t regularly take the mag, fear not: it’s not a column (or two or three), it’s one page by a single (largely non-repeated) luminary of the hobby each month. This months, for example, it’s by Colin Rumford and Richard Marsh: the two chaps behind the Rapid Fire rule system.

I largely agree with Phil D’s comments.

Well Sane Max, I like to think I take pointers from th readership so I took yours (and others) comments on board in the Q&A with Wargames Atlantic and asked them how they made decisions of sprues (and why so many chickens and wardogs!).

Read the results along with five free halflings in the next issue of Miniature Wargames, out within eight days (or there abouts…)

Airfix Romans and Ancient Brits in the late ’60s followed by their Napoleonics. Always intersperced with some Roco Minitanks (of no particular period as they were all just ‘tanks’!). I gamed with home grown rules with the romans and brits (and an Airfix Mile castle and a Bellona vac formed Roman Marching fort) and in the early ’70s discovered Airfix magazine at school, plus Military Modelling and Airfix 1/32 soft plastic WW2. In the mid seventies I dound MiniFigs ‘not really Lord of the Rings, honest’ ME range and found a wargames club in ’76 or so.

Then it was all down hill from there!

I think the Wargames Atlantic ones are excellent, I have to say: the overly comedic old GW style (for Halflings, Dwarves et all) is not something I ever cared for. Applicable if I wanted to do a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs game, sure, but not for much else…

I’ve got to say that – for me – it’s almost my earliest memory of the Anderson stuff (I actually go back to XL5 and even Torchy the Batterty boy) but the Stongray stuff is iconic – for me at any rate. Hence my work here: And as that’s 15mm I was just so pleased!

But I’d got the toy as part of the practice games with the Matchbox models and it’s pretty ‘fit the box’ scalewise at about 1/200th (as opposed to the mdoels that game with it which are about half that…). It just seemed a petty to let it go to waste.

I thought the purple was some kind of spiffy wash effect for a cyberpunk type game.

The UV resin is very useful stuff: I highly recommend it. I buy it in black, light proof bottles (of course) on amazon and it was an ecuse to buy another torch (with a UV output).

Not that I needed much of an excuse, mind you…
