For some reason those Alien Ambassadors make me think of the original Dark Crystal movie.

I also like the cockpit to be in the torso. Is there any chance, if these mechs are successful, of them getting scaled up to be compatible with 15mm goodies?

It’s a bit of a stretch, but have you looked at some of Warlord’s Cruel Seas offerings? Mainly:

    Kriegsmarine Marinefährprahm F-lighter

    Italian MZ Motozattera

    Marinefahrprahm F-Lighter

I’m thinking using the hull for the main shape and superstructure, and then adding appropriate sized weapons & other details as desired.

Dude I was blown away by the scenery you made, that is until you introduced the rec room and control room. Absolutely the bee’s knees.

How do those Hunters look with 28mm figs? Looks like they could be good not-V.O.T.O.M.S/not-Heavy Gears.

I wonder how the existing fleet scale mechs for DP9’s Heavy Gear or Jovian Chronicles would work? Love that Mech Carrier!

That 1/1700 scale Columbus, as well as the rest of those ships, are insanely cool! The fact that they light up blows me away

Try looking around at this site, I think he also did some Gundam Gasophons. He also does some real cool V.O.T.O.M.S along with scratchbuilt spaceships that might give you some inspiration. http://www.ironhands.com/

For a Columbus you could almost start with a couple of Angel Barracks’ hex cargo pods as the flight bays. Attach some thruster pods to the ends and then just make the middle ship parts…

I hope you post plenty of pics of this project. I’ve been thinking of doing something similar in 6mm and 15mm when my budget allows. 6mm when playing solo or larger scenarios, 15mm with friends. Now if we can get Angel Barracks to make minis of some of the vehicles, power suits and other goodies from your webcomic

Wow! Those bots sure painted up nicely. And the tank does have a Combat Wombat/Hammer’s Slammers vibe to it. Combat Wombat was a guy who was doing some very cool & affordable 15mm sci-fi vehicles, I believe he has a Facebook site.

Whatever the answer is, it might be time to dust off the old Terran Trade Authority books and look at the various gaming possiblities. It would be interesting to see just how close those are to the real thing or not.  https://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/14/14871.phtml

The latest bunch are way cool. I also like the Robot – 9 stuff. It’s a neat, quirky concept.

In some instances the large stompy robots are OK. Like Robotech, Gundam, The Jovian Chronicles, and even some of the smaller Battletech designs. Unfortunately even some of the designs in those universes get to be too goofy. I like my stompy robots to be a bit smaller like VOTOMS, Heavy Gears, and even Star Wars AT-ST’s.

I also like a mix of harder sci-fi & space opera, with some of the harder elements simplified and the more fantastical toned down or even left out all together. Let’s face it, lightsabers only work in Star Wars, relying on melee combat to get the job done, a-la 40k, should result in a lot of dead bodies littering the field long before they get within hand-to-hand combat.

I know this might be heresy, but go check the boards on TMP. I know Tango has posted a number of space goblins that are made by some of the smaller companies like Kromelech, Puppets of War, etc. who are targeting the 40k crowd. Unfortunately  I don’t remember just what companies are doing so.

I got the same 40k Imperial Guard vibe as well. Didn’t someone just run a Kickstarter within the past few months that also had 20mm not-Imperial Guard like figs with different helmets, officers with chain swords, etc?

Sorry, made my last post exhausted, not enough sleep, and on my phone. I was talking about the left side of the 2nd mech. It looks like you just grafted on an extra gun-barrel ans it just doesn’t look quite right. It reminds me of some of the 40K miniatures where they have a little extra room so they put an extra weapon/skull/spike/etc. It would look better with either a single barreled or double barreled weapon, but not both. Again, that’s just my humble opinion.

Those are very cool, esp for your 1st try. The first mech reminds me of a heavier version of a VOTOM  large Gear from Heavy Gear. I’m not keen on the weapons grouping of the left arm, but love how the mech is off balance like it is stepping over something. It reminds me of both a Mammoth Strider from Heavy Gear and a Dictator CAV from Reaper.

I’m. Surprised they are so small. Was looking at them for a potential not 40k Imperial Guard.

It probably isn’t bigger because if you want smaller scale there are so many manufacturers of 15mm figs that you can do colonial marines vs aliens, and just about anything else you can imagine. All for a relatively low cost and easy storage.

The same is true in the opposite direction, although the miniatures will cost more and storage becomes more of an issue.

Also kitbashing and scratchbuilding doesn’t seem to be an issue at those sizes. Personally I don’t see much of a need for 20mm, and I’m guessing most companies don’t see that size as being very profitable.

Then again, who is to say that someone doesn’t invent a game that is wildly successful in this size and spur a growth of lines trying to cash in on it’s popularity like all the 40k wannabe companies or the 15mm manufacturers of late.

Well, the basic form of the ship looks really cool for a bunch of “repurposed” stuff. Some extra details & stuff could make it almost iconic, at least amongst these pages. I’m sure by the time you finish it there will be an interesting backstory for it.

How about having mix and match blank buildings and  greeblies sets? That way people with limited time or ability could be able to have customized buildings to their liking. Well, to an extent anyway.

As these aren’t the standard 50 foot tall stompy mecha and closer to the VOTOMS/Heavy Gear types hopefully “Santa” Mike can do something about it. The other cool thing about these is they aren’t overly armed and not totally overpowering.

Nice building, but the doors look a wee-bit to small compared to the figure. Probably due to the figure’s base.
