KitfoxParticipant
Correct on the 3rd Ed. 2nd Ed the current year is zero. However the union of men is the same but third has introduce Sigma. The 2nd doesn’t mention him.
second edition Warhammer doesn’t seem to specify a date. It does include a historical timeline but it’s given in terms of years before present so the zero indicates the present year but doesn’t suggest an actual numbered year.
For interest the WFRP 1st edition version of The Enemy Within specifies the year as 2512 as well providing a calendar of the year.Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantJust out of interest what scales would you be interested in working on?
Was there anything you were thinking of?
Hi Michael,
sorry I’ve been caught up with work for the past couple of weeks. Nothing specific at the moment just seeing what the options were. I’m getting ready to start a new project (again) and once I’ve figured out which one I’m going for I’ll probably be in touch.
Cheers
Phil

KitfoxParticipantHi Mike, I’ve sent you a response to your PM.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantFair enough, Mike if you want the rules drop me a message and I’ll bung them in an envelope for you. If it turns out Mike doesn’t want them then you can have them Steven, they’re just taking up shelf space here so if helps you get a better price for the set on ebay I’m happy to help.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantSteven can have first refusal on the rules , if he doesn’t need them I’ll be happy to pass them on to you Mike. I don’t want anything for them in wither case, happy to pass them on to someone who might actually get some use / benefit from them.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantI actually have a spare copy of the rule book. I’m happy to send it to you if you’d rather hang on to the game.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantYep, sadly I may have to look elsewhere in the long run if I’m to fill out the ranks of my skeleton archers at least.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantThey’re nice figures but awkward to put together (not difficult but fiddly) and they are probably true 28mm rather than the hulking GW skeletons that are taller than their human models were.
For painting I’m going white undercoat, brown wash (x2) and drybrush the heel out of them with bone, followed by a very faint white highlight. Haven’t decided on the metallics yet will make a snap decision at the last minute as usual no doubt!
I managed to properly rebase the first 48 skeletons between watching Columbo, 24 zombies, 12 archers and the new Oathmark ones to go. I still hate doing it!
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipant
I’ve built up one unit of the Oathmark skeletons and evened out the heights by doubling up on the basing. They still feel very slight in comparison but I’m hoping they’ll even out in the painting a wee bit.on another (related) note is there any less enjoyable task in all of wargaming than rebasing an army?!?!
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantI know you’re right but my OCD keeps telling me they’re too small. I think I’ll paint up a dozen and see how they work both as a regiment on their own and mixed in with the others.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantHmmm…not convinced.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantThe ones after that sadly:
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantI suspect I’ll take a look, I haven’t bought a copy of Warhammer since 5th Edition (or thereabouts) and tend to default back to 2nd or 3rd because they were more fun in terms of the background and I always enjoyed the more narrative scenarios. It’s worth trying to track down a copy of the Rigg’s Shrine Scenario which was a lot of fun (although very difficult to actually run).
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantI’m cautiously optimistic about this, it’ll be nice to see a return to Warhammer. Age of Sigmar never really grabbed my attention although I did pick up some of the less outrageous figures so I’m hoping they’ll reign it in a little so the figures rank up nicely and are a bit less fiddly to paint. I really like the designs they’ve shown for the Kislevite Ice Guard although not so much the enchanted ice weapons although they should be easy enough to swap out.
I do think it’s a shame they’ve stuck mostly with the 3rd edition onwards, there’s a small part of me that still wants to see a new take on the Amazonian Cult of Rigg (now I’m really showing my age)!
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantI love the layout, I love the figures you’ve painted and most of all I love the concept! Superb.
That’s very kind, the figures are lovely although I would say that the Dunkeldorf ones are towards the larger end of the 28mm spectrum but the amount of detail on them if fantastic. The crooked dice fantasy figures are a bit cleaner but still full of character!
I thought I’d show you all a few of the other map tiles that will form part of the campaign, firstly a set of interconnected modular basements and cellars. I’ve intentionally ignored corridors as I want to get the feel of a maze of cellars that have been knocked through together legally and illegally to form an underground warren (I haven’t dine the stairs yet) and now allow relatively safe passage below the infested streets. It even fits perfectly in a box I had lying around although that was more by luck than design.
This will be the central hub for a number of scenarios, the Bag o’ Rats Tavern once the furniture arrives from Antenociti’s Workshop. Located in a cellar below an old building and only accessible via a single staircase it has long been the favourite watering hole of the sewer jacks and their companions. Now it is a refuge and resting place although the landlady’s rules (no dirty work boots, no spitting and always say please and thank you) still apply even at the end of the world.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantSadly now that I’m back at work progress has been slow, but I’ve finally managed to finish the rest of the sewer patrol to a rough tabletop standard at least. I’ll go back and tidy them up later when I’ve got more time but at least I can get a game in soon:
The brave men, women, dwarfs and halflings of the City Sewer Patrol ready for action!
I also picked up a few lovely figures from King Games in Denmark (from their excellent Dunkeldorf range), there aren’t many places where you can order a gong farmer and a female ratcatcher! Lovely figures in the grim fantasy style, excellent service and frankly lovely people to deal with, I can’t recommend them highly enough!
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantShe’s intended as some kind of vengeful ghost, given the bloody hands probably a murderer in life? The figure is from Hasslefree Miniatures (Caoimhe?) she’s in the fantasy/ undead section.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantI got two new adversaries painted up last night, I’m planning to try and tackle the sewerjacks at the weekend.
Der vertucktenkrote
Proud Marie no-one is sure what she wants but the dripping blood from her ghostly hands is said to be the last thing an unwary ‘jack wil ever hear.Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantHmmm…despite the apparent relevance of the topic I still smell spam!

KitfoxParticipantGood to know!
The sewer flukes are “fluke shamblers” https://crooked-dice.co.uk/product/fluke-shamblers/
The bloated zombie is from this set https://crooked-dice.co.uk/product/bloater-zombies/
The “sewer golems” are mud men from Otherworld miniatures https://otherworldminiatures.co.uk/shop/wilderness-encounters-2/we27-mudmen-2/

KitfoxParticipantIt depends very much on the type and scale of the game for me. For larger “army” battles I tend to stick with the rules as written for the most part to avoid getting bogged down in unnecessary detail and keep the game flowing. For skirmish gaming on the other hand I’m more towards the “anything goes” end of the spectrum as they lend themselves to a more detailed narrative and for the most part the weird and wonderful actions add to the enjoyment. I do find it goes better though if the game has an umpire / referee who is used t making quick (and consistent) rulings on what is possible and what isn’t.

KitfoxParticipantI think the Basic Roleplaying System arrived on the scene in around 1980 and was originally intended for Runequest before being adapted for Call of Cthulhu in 1981 or thereabouts.

KitfoxParticipantI suppose it would be mischievous to suggest you send them a formal “Cease and Desist” letter?

KitfoxParticipantThis story reminds me of a book I found a few years back in a charity shop although it stood out for very different reasons. It was a reprint of the 1941 edition of “The Chemistry of Powder and Explosives” which was essentially a Chemistry textbook explaining in step by step terms how to make all sorts of deeply dangerous substances. Cue a quick conversation with the manager explaining why selling it to just anyone at random could end badly!

KitfoxParticipantI hope Herr Doctor Malthusius is back this year, his three-legged goblin was well worth seeing!

KitfoxParticipantThe very same! Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff here the pictures that accompany the narrative are always beautifully done.

KitfoxParticipantWelcome Aboard Paul,
I’ve been following your campaign for a few years now and I must say I can never decide whether I enjoy the narrative or seeing the latest output from your unique (and highly effective) painting style.
It always brings back fond memories of gaming with you more years ago than I care to admit to.

KitfoxParticipantI’ll keep it short then: not really our target audience… The idea that one should be an audience, indeed a target audience, has no appeal to me. Sorry, but there you go. I’m interested in war, I’m interested in history, I’m interested in the history of war but sadly I’m not particularly interested in the egotistical ramblings of wargame designers or opinions of anyone. Opinions are invariably wrong and they carry weight not on their intrinsic merit but on the popularity of those who hold them.
You’re a real ray of sunshine. Why bother posting at all?
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantI’ve been running it on a base PS4 and with the 1.04 Hotfix it runs…alright. Textures take a while to load, it’s still a bit fuzzy when walking around the city, lots of glitches and bugs and cars and NPCs popping in after a few seconds but at least it doesn’t crash every half hour. Overall though the game itself is pretty good, I’ve found it engaging and it certainly captures the feel of the game for the most part. The first few story missions are fantastic, exciting, emotional but I can’t discuss them more without spoilers really so suffice to say I’m hooked.
However, it does feel a bit desperate to prove it’s an adult game, lots of nudity for those seeking cheap thrills, swearing (yes including that word) for the sake of it and overall a surprising number of randomly spawning marital aids (less so after the latest fix). I’d say it falls on the wrong side of the line of good taste in more than a few places as well (sexism, transphobia and racial stereotyping have been heavily criticised). Of course it’s only my opinion but I’d say a lot of the flak at launch was justified.
I’d give it 6-7 out of 10 just now due to the large number of technical, maybe upgrading to an 8 if they fix the graphics issues.

KitfoxParticipantGetting there on the outside at least but I still have to paint the interior of three floors…phew!

KitfoxParticipantHere’s my new project, from Tabletop World.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantI’ve moved house a couple of times recently and had to pack up a load of big figures for transport. I moved this lady in a cardboard moving box by wrapping her in bubble wrap and packing round them with more balls of bubble wrap and she survived pretty well although I did carry her by hand in a shopping bag rather than by bike.
Death to all fanatics!
KitfoxParticipantSome progress shots. Next up some light plastering and then the serious business of painting the walls. It may not look like much of a change so far but the absence of the old fireplace really changes the feel of the room for the better. The tables 6′ by not quite 4′ (but extends to nearly 8′) so plenty of space for epic battling!
