Beautiful stuff, Mat! Second on the orange shoulders: they add that necessary touch of flash!

Love this stuff! Why did I never think of that pasta idea before? I wonder if it would work in 3mm…

That shrub stump is brilliant for 28mm!

Strike Legion: Planetary Operations fits that bill.

You could also do a miniatures version of Dwarf Star’s old Grav Tank. It’s freely available out there!

Oh and someone recently sent me this, which is from a 1998 issue of Wargames Illustrated. It’s my demo game of the Battle of Lobositz. We took it to the August Partizan (where it was photographed for the mag by Duncan McFarlane) and then to Warfare in Reading, where it got a prize and then John Tuckey’s little show at Marston Magna, where it got Best of Show with a 100% vote from all the other gamers. 🙂

I am pretty sure I have that issue, Jemima! Hat’s off!

A bunch of full-boared orcs (bases still unfinished).

The square fleet will be red and yellow, the round fleet blue and orange.

Yeah, I am kitbashing some ships to get battleships.

These are really fun figures to screw around with, Thomaston, and I am looking forward to getting back to them as soon as the dust from my move settles.

These look very interesting! Thank you for bringing them to my attention. What is the basing system, if you don’t mind?

    Beautiful stuff as usual, PiP!

For some strange reason, I never connected you with THAT Ashley Pollard. I guess it’s like when I get grad students at conferences asking me if I am “Tadeu da Devir”.

With the move to our new apartment set to happen in three days time, I am racing to finish up these last few figures before a several months’ long spell of not-painting sets in. (I need to build 250 linear feet of bookshelves in the new place, just for starters).

These are test paintings of Thomason’s micro space ships, and some seriously boared Microworld 3mm Suizz orcs.

Regarding San Justo’s less than illustrious career, it could be worse: they could be making Portuguese third rates of renown.

I would like to know, too. His were the first sci-fi 2mm figures I ever bought and I still use them in kitbashes.

Hmmm. I think it was when I found “Charge!” in my local library and set up my Airfix guys to play it. That would have been around… Wow. Lessee. Maybe when I was ten? So 43 years ago in 1977. I’d already been playing board wargames for a year or two.

It would have probably been in summer, because I found the book at the Sheboygan Public Library when I was at my grandmother’s house on break.

This is quick and simple and does not REQUIRE any additional work. At 10mm, though, you may want a dash of clashing color to make the shields pop.

in reply to: Fantasy Decals #146606

I have some of them for 15mm, Mike. They are very simplistic and not exactly great printing quality, because they are old school. However, they are also relatively cheap and the ones I have have lasted 20 years, both on the figs and on the transfer sheet. They work best when you can spruce them up with just a touch of paint work.

in reply to: Vexillum, Signum or Draco? #146514

I do, but mine are fantasy.

I take the attitude that all my historical games actually occur in a parallel dimension, one point removed from ours. So when I want to make changes like this, I just go ahead and do it.

My rule is this: can I come up with a plausible hypothesis that it looked like that? Better yet, is there at least some circumstantial evidence in support of it? If so, I do it and don’t look back.

As such, my EIR legions have small groups of skirmishing javelineers. The two periods before and after did and there is some circumstantial evidence than legionaires were told off for this role. It makes the legions look better and fight better, so I did it.

Definitely like these for 3mm scale. They actually seem like they’d play very well both with the Microworld 3mm line and their Modular Supertanks.

    oh, very much so!

I am going to have to add some to the order Ali’s holding for me for when the mails and/or international travel open up again.

Use Army Painter’s method. It works on small figures, too, and it can really speed things up!

The streamers probably would look better on the pikes, but I put them on the mobs, just so I could have a quick visual cue, from arm’s length, which end was front.

Not sure if I will put them on the pikes yet, but future mobs will be given spearmen here and there with streamers.

Looks kind of like a mix of high German medieval and Byzantine architecture, but I’m sure rural shrines are much less elaborate.

Get a 28mm Sigmar-looking figure — not very detailed, mind — mount it on a plinth and paint it like a statue.

I know it is a typo, but I think “Salivation and Catastrophe” is a perfectly good title for a book on this war. 🙂

Congratulations! I will be looking into getting a copy ASAP!
