Participant28mm. Hands down. The rules could be whatever you please, depending on what your preferred number of troops on the table is.

ParticipantHats off on the crew! Nice work with greenstuff.

ParticipantSo all trousers, tunics and footwear done, the chain hauberks and such all done. A few touch-ups on hands and faces, and leg-wrappings, then beards and helmets.
Oh, and I added a few more javelinmen Thralls- it’s 167 on there now!
Suitable for use in both WAB and Hail Caesar.

ParticipantI have no idea where you’d find one, but the Great Spined Dragon by Nick Bibby
has always been my favourite.

Participant127 Vikings of assorted types, all assembled and on bases. Next up- undercoating and some basing compound to smooth out the puddle bases around their feet.

ParticipantHmmm. I only do 28mm, but here’s my list:
Heer, Gebirgs, Hermann Goering, SS Gebirgs, Luftwaffe Field Division, Volksgrenadier. FJ (waiting to be assembled & painted).
Mid War Soviet. Late War Soviet.
USA.
Commonwealth.
Finnish.
Italian (waiting to be assembled & painted).
12 so far, each consisting of a mix of infantry, artillery and some vehicles.

ParticipantI’m one (leave them in boxes in a closet of shame) until I, at long last, reach three (eventually finish them). During this process, they’ll often travel from workbench to closet and back several times!

ParticipantI think you’ve summed up WH pretty well. I think the pros outweigh the cons for me.
I think I’d also add long-time familiarity with the rules as a pro.

ParticipantThese days, solo whenever I can be bothered to set things up.
I have a fortnightly D&D game via Roll20, currently, but no wargames. There’s the possibility of a once-in-a-while game with members of a club two towns over, but nothing confirmed yet.

ParticipantNever. I use what’s at hand, and if they happen to be the right figures, so much the better, but I refuse to kowtow to a company boxing me in.

ParticipantRL took a bit longer than expected. Unfortunately the game doesn’t work for me on my slightly older laptop when running in WINE (I use Linux).
That all said, I hope it turns out to be a good one- I will follow, and when I have a newer laptop, I’ll give it another whirl.

ParticipantYah, OK, so I bought it. Offer, too good to resist and all that. Expect questions once I’ve read through it.

ParticipantHardcover or softcover, followed by pdf. Spiral? It’s just WRONG.

ParticipantApologies for the silence, but RL took over from gaming, and will keep me out for a few more days! I expect to return to the fold by middle of next week.

ParticipantWow! Thank you for supporting a luddite! I’m downloading, and will give it a whirl tomorrow.
I’m just frustrated by having to create new identities and passwords and learn new interfaces for six gazillion different social media sites or forums or whatever just because.

ParticipantOh dear- that makes me a little concerned. I very strongly dislike any card-based mechanics…
Still, I’d love to hear more before I make a final call on them.

wargames review site...Olaf Meys
ParticipantSounds like it’s right up my street, particularly the solo from the outset idea.
I’ll be following this for sure. The only real question for me is about the mechanics. Do you plan to use any cards?

ParticipantHmmmmm- let’s see.
Obviously, wargaming, as I’m posting here.
I can also add building 1/48th models of aircraft, (re-)watching old sci-fi movies, collecting and (re-)reading classic sci-fi and fantasy books, cats (I have three of them), the occasional board-game, and, until I stuffed myself up physically, loads of DIY and garden-related things. Also, add things like studying history (AD950-1200 and 1900-1945), visiting historical sites, SCUBA diving, and baking.

ParticipantLOL, as it happens, I’m reading it right now (chapter 10)- I got an invitation via another path!
It reminds me of the Harold Coyle/Tom Clancy books in many ways (good ones).

ParticipantYeah, I know the feeling. I have part-purchased and part-finished projects from Ancients to WW2, with the occasional foray into Fantasy and Pulp, going back thirty years or more. After my stroke 10 years ago, my memory has started letting me down, so every so often I dig through and “rediscover” things and have a completely brilliant “eureka” moment. I consider it as the best part of the hobby. There is nothing like discovering a new interest, and I get to do that several times for the same thing!

ParticipantI think your ownership/participation as gamer is crucial to the core of the site. If it gets sold to someone who has no connection to the hobby, the site might lose its soul. It’s the only site I still regularly visit because it is “homey”, it has no drama (unlike many other sites, where the owners have a too heavy hand in moderation and rules around what may be published and what not), and is not continually trying to push an agenda.
A non-gamer would not know enough to “read” where things go.

ParticipantThis might just be what I need to get back into gaming- my mojo’s been gone for a while, but seeing the pictures above put images in my head. Admittedly, I’m a solo gamer, so they wouldn’t get much external use, but I would definitely be incentivised to posting pictures of in=progress games.

ParticipantI have assorted EIR, Dark Ages/Early Medieval, 80YW, 1910-1950, a smattering of Sci-Fi and a few Fantasy figures. I refuse to touch Nappies, and am VERY reluctant to get Lace Wars.
Needless to say, they are all only in 28mm.

ParticipantMy only question would be “why?”. FB is intrusive, and limiting. It wouldn’t stop me buying a product, but I would certainly think twice, and probably look for an alternative.

ParticipantOoh smashing! I like a good competition me. But aren’t WE suppose to show YOU pictures of our painted models?
Nope, HE shows us the pictures of HIS miniatures, and we judge them. The one with the most creative, constructive criticism wins…
