    Interesting find there Guy.

Mac Colla’s lads were apparently equipped in the Highland fashion.  The Irish Lancers were not traditional Irish Horse rather the lance had been introduced by Owen Roe to combat Scots pistol armed Horse-it worked.  I’m not sure about the other notes.

    A handy map.

There are some new Spanish Civil War pics on my blog with an extract from my Arriba é Non Pasaran rules.  It deals with the Unit Card Deck and the Event Table that drives the game.

If it is of interest here is the link.

    Cheers Tony.

I needed to use the scatter die for where stray explosive rounds landed if that ‘event’ occurred and to set the direction of the bull’s travels. The bull is getting a new paint job for being nice.  No one is allowed to shoot the bull it’s just not the done thing.

When I was setting the game up it came to me to use the die in deployment of the two sides too.  It does seem to work.

I’d tend to agree with that point Thaddeus.  Davis had to keep his States happy or the polity would fail. He ultimately was politically responsible for making it work.

Did everyone miss the hard plastic?

Jacob talks about washing metal figures in his post too.  Me, I’ve never washed metal figures and I’ve painted thousands of them.  I always wash plastic and resin.

I think I like the first two sets best.

Hovels also have some Spanish stuff that would fit with what you have.  A few years ago I got a load of old resin ‘Mediterranean’ style buildings from Ebay.  They are 15mm and I have no idea who made them but I would guess 1980s or 90s. You can see one of them here.

    Macedonian and Punic wars 15mm

I’ve completed the first 10 units of Spanish warriors for my Punic wars project. Another two and I can field a Spanish Army in its own right.

    Macedonian and Punic Wars 15mm

Most of the figures are from Forged in Battle with two units from a mixture of manufacturers old and new.

If it is of interest, you can see them all on my blog.

    I hear you Bokaso.

It probably keeps us out of mischief  Tony.  I enjoy painting so its no hardship to transform thought to action.  I also have the time to do it.

Speaking of odd corners I’m getting ready to paint the Irish Federates of Dyfed.  I have the figures and a painting plan, probably my most obscure project ever.

Here are a couple of Zvezda models.  I’m very impressed by Zvezda.

They are easy to assemble and look good.  Very reasonably priced too.

I’m pretty new to painting vehicles and hadn’t realised that they require a different technique to that for little soldiers.  I’m starting to get the hang of it now.

    Macedonian and Punic Wars

Two more Roman Legions for my Macedonian and Punic wars project are complete.  I’ll just leave out the triari for the Macedonian Wars. Cheating I know, but I’m all Roman’ed out what with 3rd Century and Late, Sub Romans and Belisarius too.

The figures are old ones from Chariot and Essex and it is good to see them fit for service once more.

If it is of interest there are lots of clickable pics on my blog.

    Numidians

I’ve finished the Numidian contingent for my Carthaginian Army.  The figures are from Essex and Forged in Battle.  They fit together nicely enough on the same base.  If it is of interest there are more pics on my blog.

    Macedonian and Punic Wars

My second legion is now complete.  Forged in Battle 15mm once more.  For the next two it will be Chariot Miniatures.  All single pose by type but nice enough figures.

The pics on my blog will expand if you click them.

Yes, I think Justin is interesting on the subject.  I haven’t read his book yet but intend to.  One thing, if I’m doing him justice, he thinks the Romans closed up in action. That would mean either their battle line contracted by half in the immediate presence of the enemy.  Maybe they did but I’d think it might expose their flanks.

Thanks Cyrus.  This project has me thinking more and more about Roman fighting style.  The pila volley was intended to give an edge but on a six feet frontage I’d think each Roman swordsman might well initially face more than one enemy.  That would argue for a very active fighting style.  The physical demands of that probably necessitated the line relief system.

I will keep you posted on how Pulse of Battle and Civates Bellantes work out for me.  The latter btw is available as a £5.00 download.  I never knew that Duke had come to the same conclusion thanks for letting me know.

Yeah not having to rebase is great -rule writers take note.

I suspect it might be my blog with regard to the pics.  Let’s see what I can do here.

Yeah, Forged in Battle are good.  Also check out QRF, they have excellent Spanish figures with loads of different poses.  Both are compatible with each other and Essex.

All three will work on the same bases.
