Shaun, that is very cool!  I bought about 25 of these cogs on UKebay several years ago and wish I could find more.  They are great little models.  I also have a bunch of the 1/1200 from Outpost, but I like the tiny ones even better.  Thanks for posting your version of the rules.  As for the second set you mentioned with the link, have you seen a copy for sale anywhere there in the UK?  I have never seen then but would like to have a set.  I’ll keep an eye open over here in the US.

    Thanks  –  Allen

Those look really nice.  I love the things that you can do with the Impetus basing.

Just downloaded them.  I have around 25 x 1/2400 cogs that are unfortunately not made anymore.  I’ll try it out with those.  I do have a few of the Outpost cogs, but not enough so I need to buy a few more it looks like!

Thanks for sharing this, it is one of my two favorite battles and it looks like a fun simple game for a rainy afternoon.  I will have to pick it up.  I’m disappointed that the Falkirk and Stirling Bridge games are not included though.

Take a look at “For God King and Country” by the Canadian Wargames Group.  They are pretty simple and the booklet has a lot of great info in it.

Yep, those look like Museum, I have a few of them around somewhere myself.  They have a really nice Norman line and some more additions to it in their El Cid range too.

I have played Dux Bellorum and Saga and I don’t find them similar at all….just my opinion.  Both good games in their own right though.

I have the rules, but have not played the final version.  Dan was nice enough to let me playtest and I enjoyed the games that I played from that version.  I am not sure how close it is to the final product, but my guess is that it will be a fun game.

Hi James, are your rules and the army lists on the yahoo group or just the rules?  I would be interested in a copy of both if they are available.  Love your work by the way, the new crusades set up looked great on TMP!

The figure is from Barony Miniatures, which I highly recommend.

The rules are unit based and on an army level game, not a skirmish game.  The basing is very flexible as long as both players are based roughly the same way.  Emphasis is on the melees, which often last several turns and have ebb and flow to the combats (it is a little less so in the fast play variant…quick and bloody).  I use six sided dice of different colors, but they are not standard D6 and they have different values.  The dice were produced in a way so that they are not expensive and are included with the game.  The idea is that instead of modifiers add to dice rolls, the player merely rolls a different dice color based upon the situation and the number rolled is the number used.  This does speed the game up a little according to players that have been involved in the games.  Most players have the rules down by turn 2 or 3.  This is not to say that there is not some depth to the rules, and players have a lot of decisions to make during the turns.  Activation is card based by commands and dice rolls are opposed, both things keep players engaged during the turn phases.  I will try to get more info out as I get closer to a release date.  There are still a few things that I am cleaning up with them.

    Thanks   –   Allen

Nice work.  I have been doing nothing but painting heraldry for the last 6 months it seems.  It is a lot of fun to research and also to add lib on the caparisons in relation to the shield designs.
