Nice work! Might try something like this myself in 6mm.

… are there any miniatures available for either the post-war Skoda T40 or T50 projects?

I wish! It’s a great idea though. I’d love to see manufacturers take risks like this, but completely understand why they don’t. I seem to remember that  20/30 years ago there was a greater willingness to produce planned or hypothetical weaponry – perhaps the market was less competitive.

My wargaming life started with naval games, where bookkeeping is the norm, so I’m pretty tolerant of it in my games. But it’s a trade off between number of units/individuals/ships and the record detail required. I’ve used the Irregular Miniatures FPW-WW1 boxed rules, and liked them a lot: they require keeping track of “actual” casualties in brigade sized units.

If you’ve no luck at the Beamstrike yahoo group, there’s an IC group called “For a Few Gonads More” which has a beta 1.2 version of the rules (and a lot of other nice stuff).

Holy poops, that’s a big game! What a great looking show – the might of 6mm in action!

Something you might try is a mix n match of turrets and hulls, from both modern and sci fi lines. For example, I’ve taken turrets from a Brigade Models Sci fi tank and put them on a Heroics and Ros T80BV to create… well, I forget what I called it, but painted up it looked fine!

Not perhaps exactly what you’re looking for, but check out Peter Pig’s WW2 figures, they do female Soviet snipers and female French Resistance:

Their WW1 range might be worth a look too.

Really good work! It’s been years since I made similar card buildings in 1/300th scale, and yes they were cheap and I got plenty of use out of them, but they were so fiddly (and I’m so sausage-fingered) I can feel my blood pressure rising just remembering!

All the same, I think I’ll check these out!

Clydeside Model’s old 1/1200th ships – big range, and pretty cheap too!

    SDD’s 1/600th ships.

    ISM modern 1/300th.

I also wish Alternative Armies would release more of the old TTG/TTM 15mm orcs (I’m assuming they have the moulds!)

I wonder could it be an old ISM model? They produced some pretty niche stuff until they folded. There was also a UK manufacturer that disappeared round about the same time. I forget the name, but I think the detail on their models was relatively limited, and the range pretty mainstream WW2 and Cold War.

Intriguing! If you ever find out whodunnit, do let us know!

I’m hoping there’s a 6mm modern manufacturer out there still to be discovered, like Planet Nine!

How detailed is the model? And is it new looking?

    Are you sure you’re certain?

The only thing I can think of in 6mm are the Chinese 6-wheeled APCs which look very like the Pegaso, made by Scotia (WZ-551), and I think GHQ make versions too.

Different war, Martin! Though as it looks very interesting, and it’s cheap second hand on Amazon, I might just buy it anyway! Thanks

I always seem to remember my figures as worse than they are, then when I dig something out to use I’m pleasantly surprised.

Me too! After the initial glow of pride fades, anxiety sets in: Does this mean the more I paint, the worse I get??

Those links are great, thanks (the SA one isn’t working, but I’ll figure it out in a mo). I can’t read on screen for long, so I’ll have to print them out, but they look worth it. Also nice that the ibiblio “books” include bibliographies – I’ve already found “The Abyssinian Campaigns” second have online.

    Thanks again!

Generic figure types for 6mm modern: different helmet types, caps, berets, bareheaded, with AKs, SLRs, M16s,  bullpups (you can tell the difference with these figures I’m thinking of), and every post 1945 military vehicle and variant known to humanity.

I’d also produce 15mm (maybe even 28mm as I’m loaded in this scenario) goblins from the film Labyrinth. And all the ships from the battles of Navarino and Sinope in 1/1200th.

Why not just take the pdf to a printer and get them to print and bind it for you? That’s what I did with a particularly long ruleset that I couldn’t be @rsed printing myself. It worked out a bit more expensive, but not that much, and I didn’t have to listen to my elderly inkjet puffing and wheezing through ca. 150 pages.

I think it’s a ranging machine gun to aid main gun accuracy. A lot of tanks had them, but the Israeli ones tended to be more prominent. Don’t know if they’re used much anymore, except perhaps as a backup.

Cheers JF, that’s perfect! All my searches drew a blank, the only 1970s desert colour photos I could find were of SAS blokes in Dhofar, and I think they picked their gear up from army surplus shops.

I did buy some Scotia South Africans for this purpose as the helmets are similar but was a waste of money unfortunately.

I quite like those figures (the ones in hats), and they’d do as 1960s Aden emergency British (the ones in sensible trousers anyway), but they’re noticeably lanky beside the H&R fellas, and probably not mixable. I’m loving the AARs you’re posting… especially, of course, the “PT-78ms”, and where else would you see them pitted against Chieftains than the Polish-Lithuanian War?

Perhaps if a 6 indicated a pin/duck for cover result and 4 and 5 meant something more unpleasant? So the probability of rolling for a hit on a 6 with four dice is the same as rolling 3-6 on one, but you’re never going to KO any figure with the former.

I’d be inclined to go for 1 dice, but it depends: It can seem odd when you’re mixing SLRs/bolt action rifles with assault rifles in a skirmish game to have all soldiers rolling the same number of dice. I like Victoria’s idea, but it would probably only work when using different types of weapon, otherwise you’re always going to pick 2 dice at 5+ with a 2/3 chance of scoring a hit compared to 1/2.

I think in 6mm you can get aaat with just about anything.

That’s what 54mm players say about 15mm (probably). Let’s stand together against size-ism

Rules of choice?  I’m playing with CWC or Sabre Squadron

I recently purchased CWC on Wargames Vault and I’m keen to try them out. So either them or WRG 1950-1985.

OK, my tiny mind is whirring – does anyone know what the British Army desert uniform was like in the 1970s? I’ve some of the new H&R infantry that have been kicking their heels – until now! And French troops of that era – would US infantry be an OK proxy? Ta!

The Vickers Medium  MkII is one of my favourite tanks. I certainly wouldn’t swap one for a ship, even a beauty like that! Wish someone made a decent one in 1/300th.

I find this kind of thing tricky… I tend to cut miniature manufacturers more slack as the ones I order from tend to be very small. I’ve only had a couple of minor instances where an order wasn’t 100% correct and I couldn’t be bothered/found it too trivial to raise with the vendor. I think in my head these guys offer a service to geeks like me and if they went out of business I’d be unhappy

If I were ordering across the Atlantic I’m not sure what I’d do as it’d probably be a one-off/rare order that I wouldn’t be repeating any time soon so wouldn’t have an opportunity to get the mini(s) I actually wanted.
