I have finally found an answer to the USPS postal changes.

I have been using Shippo (goshippo.com) for the last month.  The pricing model makes this different from all the others in that it charges an incremental fee for the labels you print rather than a flat monthly fee.

Shippo gives you their full USPS discount, then simply charges you $.05 per label.

    Example:

USPS small flat rate box fee: $6.80

    Shippo for same: $5.90 + $.05, total $5.95.

    They also discount overseas rates.

    Regards,

    Graydon

@zippyfusenet – Ewwwwww!  I have two cats and with luck they will eventually pass away quickly, quietly and without pain.

Most of my ‘oopsies’ involve a slip of the xacto knife as described by ‘Just Jack’, though I had one episode of a can of spray primer spit out chunks of primer rather than a fine spray.  Off to a two week soak in Simple Green with that unit for a good two week soak and brush cleaning.

I can paint anything, any scale to an exactingly high standard — as long as I am not required to complete more than one miniature a year.

I played with both my daughter and my son for many years.

Daughter stayed in until  she was 15.  Something about never rolling dice against a little girl kept her going.  She is 23 now.

Son lasted until he was 13.  Went off to play football and never came back.  He is 21 now.

With luck, I will  live long enough to corrupt my grandchildren.

I play in a long running fantasy miniatures campaign called “Falmurth”.

We try to play at least once a year.

This past November was the 40th annual battle, though I must admit that my first year playing wasn’t until 1982.

Oy.  I think I am going to have to both raise prices and also suck up 10% myself.

I looked into using an online postage company.  Basically $16/month.

I have 3-6 shipments a month, so I either pay an extra $4/shipment to save my customers $.70 or I just eat the $.70.

About 1/5 of my shipments are to Europe.  Those prices also went up.

    Shipping a 4ox ( 114g) package to Europe was $9.18 and a 5oz (141g) package to Europe was $12.33 USD, now up to 8oz (227g) is $13.50 (+47% to +9.5%).
    Shipping a 10oz (283g) package to Europe was $14.40 USD and a 16oz (453g) package to Europe was $16.16 USD , now 9-16oz (453g) is $22.50 (+56% to +39%).
So basically, I am going to bill the new rates but offer all customers the 10% discount I no longer get, except on those orders less that $13.00USD.   No enough margin in those to make it worth losing the $.70.

Yup. 3-4 hrs for a unique 28mm fig. About half that per figure for a unit of like figs. And I agree with William Harley that cleaning, prep and undercoating makes all the difference in the final result. I prime with black, white, brown and clear depending on what I want the finished fig to look like. And since I paint with cheap craft paints…

The only thing I can think of which even comes close would be the Thunderbolt Mountain elf in leaf armor. If you painted the leaves to look like feathers that is.

I took a lot of pummling when I came out with my Japanese Schoolgirl miniatures, even though they were designed to look like real girls and not the over-sexed anime type girls.
And most of the folks making the rudest comments hadn’t even othered to look at them.

I love “da intarwebz” but some people just like to pile on.

Thanks, Paul.  With a square and a circular saw you can knock out several of them in a couple hours.

    Dystopian Wars.

Great figs. Bought a bucket-load of Empire of the Sun ships and flyers.

Painted for weeks, built islands, a seascape board, installations, etc.

Then played my first game and the rules were so fiddly and model specific, I was “just shoot me now.”

I use covered metal sheet cake pans.  I like them because I can sort my figures out by genre/game and even though they are covered to keep out dust, you can easily look in to see which figs are in which.  I use them for 1-4 figure stands.

Of course, you have to attach a magnetic sheet to the bottom your stands, but that helps them slide across a felt tabletop.  I have several pans with a raised lid giving me more than 3″ of clearance.

Here is a pan with “Jungle Crawl” figures in it:

Then I made several carry racks that hold five pans each.  I never need more than two when transporting figs. A bungie keeps them from sliding out:

Yeah, I hear you. Had I been making just a simple forum then php or similar would have been my choice. But of course TWW is sooooo much more than just a forum!

Ah, but you can use WordPress’ content management with a SMF forum. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

Well, they are if your Host supports one but not the other.

The three biggest issues with an online startup community are:
    1. Free vs Paid
    2. Security
    3. Ease of Setup/Administration

I probably lean toward SMF because my “real” job is software development.

Alas I am not sure this software allows that. There is the latest posts section on the front page though and latest topics.

Well, TWW is a wordpress based forum and LAF is a SMF based forum.  Apples and Oranges, really.  My pref would have been SMF, but YMMV.
