I print bases of various types. I have the whole range of WRG standard bases, GW style, Bolt Action, FoW, just about anything. I did the math and the amount of filament used is cheaper than buying them. So whenever I get to the end of a roll of filament I use the rest to print off bases and throw them in the storage bin. If you look on Thingiverse you can find several customizable files to print bases with slots, sloped sides, ovals, etc.

Thanks, how much do you reckon a typical tank costs you in $ to make? (do you get the files for free?)
most of my files are free, found on thingiverse.com. The filament I buy runs about $17 per kilo. I just weighed a 1/56 scale Sherman I had handy and it came to 62 grams for a cost of $1.06. Give or take a few grams for supports and cleanup
BTW lots more pics at my gallery: http://www.joxash.org/gallery2/index.php/28mm-WW2/Soviets

The resolution on this particular printer just doesn’t cut it for figures. I am eyeing a resin printer maybe for Christmas that will do the trick.

It varies. Some are lengthways some print on end. I experimented quite a bit on these.
