- Cool figures and painting, though you are not painting enough highlighted by the lack of paint on your finger and thumb 😀
willzParticipantVery cool find Andrew, thanks for the share.
willzParticipantExcellent stuff, thanks for sharing.
willzParticipantMy lamp did that last year Mike, opened it up there was some moisture around the connection. Dried it off and it worked.
willzParticipantExcellent stuff, just ordered a couple of scenarios.
willzParticipantVery nice looking battalions, you will have to stop posting these photos. It makes me want to collect some Mini figs😀.
willzParticipantwell done.
willzParticipantLiving in Grimsby at the time of the 2nd / 3rd cod wars puts a different light on the ‘game/quote]
- I served on HMS Leopard during the Cod Wars and visited Grimsby for shore leave. Never got any medals though😀.
willzParticipantThanks for sharing all the wargaming eye candy.
willzParticipantCool ship, thanks for posting.
willzParticipantA very smart looking game, thanks for sharing.
willzParticipantDon’t forget about oceanography when using an underwater detection system.
This is the best book on the subject.
- Principles of Underwater Sound by Robert J. Urick is the most widely used book on underwater acoustics and sonar published today. For more than three decades this book has been the standby of practicing engineers, scientists, technicians, underwater systems managers, teachers and students. Its contents lie squarely in the middle between theory at one end and practical technology at the other. Principles encapsulates the fundamental principles and the various phenomena of underwater sound as they apply to sonar equation, the heart of prediction of sonar performance and the quantitative assessment of effectiveness of a sonar’s target detection capability. Explanations are clear and well written for teaching and self-study and the book has a problem section with solutions. Dr. Robert Urick, the author, was an eminent underwater acoustics scientist and engineer, contributing to nearly all phases of underwater sound research. Among his many awards, Robert Urick received the Distinguished Civilian Service Award from the Navy and The Pioneers Medal from the Acoustical Society of America for his authorship of this book, his many experiments on sound propagation scattering, reverberation and ambient noise, and his grand scholarship and leadership in the field of underwater
willzParticipantAh that makes sense, I was thinking it was normally on a Sunday 😀.
willzParticipantThese books may have what you are looking for. I think there are several more in this range?
willzParticipantTempted to attend, I may be able to plan a visit.
willzParticipantAn excellent Naval Napoleonic eye candy feast, and fantastic AAR.
willzParticipantFantastic display of uber cool modelling.
willzParticipantNothing to lose by putting on fleabay.
willzParticipantExcellent and a good price, I saw it in a shop at £70 something. I seem to remember the back of the box said it had a solo variant, it might interest me as a campaign generator for my Wars of Roses figures.
Norm here is part one of three videos on how to play solo Kingmaker.
willzParticipantWofun has released more WSS figures Spanish this time.

willzParticipantWhen we meet up at Kenilworth at the hotel the food is pretty good with a wide selection of various choices. I have often pondered running wargames and having a good dining experience at the end of a day’s gaming. Good food and fine wine and good after diner wargame chat. If anyone is up for it maybe we could run a get together.
willzParticipantThanks, I’ll share the info of this new edition. I played this game a few times, very long ago, the gaming club in Rennes (Brittany) had one. I liked the unexpected system, that the players were not represented by the pretenders themselves (York or Lancaster) but by factions of nobility, it was a new approach of a dynastic conflict game.
More photos here Patrice.

willzParticipantAllan Tidemarsh does a fantastic blog on his Samurai modelling and gaming adventure.
willzParticipantThe first map is classic Kingmaker.
The second map is Kingmaker II.

Yes Norm it has a solo version, a Kingmaker II version, a Kingmaker classic version and a Kingmaker classic extended version.
willzParticipantMine arrived today, excellent production quality.
Very impressed with the game and it allows you to play the classic version.
Worth £48 including postage.Willz.
willzParticipantI have watched the Hornby programs on the tv which are very interesting, I wonder if they will do an episode about Warlord games. That would be high profile for our hobby.

willzParticipantA very good read and synopsis.
willzParticipantBought this yesterday.

willzParticipantThank you for a great photo show report.
willzParticipantWhilst on the mould subject check out the number of clay molds on Etsy, I have not look through many but I bet there will be items we could use for gaming / modelling. https://www.etsy.com/uk/market/clay_molds
not sure i want to get into making these but its prob worth looking into
I am with you, too many project temptations.
willzParticipantEarlier 18th century regiments were trained to turn one rank to face the rear if attacked from the rear by cavalry or infantry. It was an easier drill than forming a square. The general consensus of opinion fire power to the front of earlier 18th century regiments appears more powerful than Napoleonic regiments.

willzParticipantVacuum formed terrain items have been around a VERY long time – anyone remember Bellona ? I still have an unused trench system of theirs but, after 30 odd years, I still haven’t found a use for it. Most of the stuff that can be vacuum formed can be done DIY in other materials quite easily so I tend to prefer that as I like making stuff. I suppose, for those who want it ready made, it is good but it is very lightweight.
Oh yes I even made my own vacuum former mould many many years ago, but it was cheaper to buy Bellona stuff. I wish I had kept the few items I bought.
willzParticipantI predicted a couple of years ago somewhere on this forum that 3D colour printing would happen as the 3D printers got cheaper, though $45 for one figure is pricey. Asda was doing a 300mm 3D printed figure of one’s self for £60 a few years ago. I think print shops will start doing 3D printed items in the near future and we will be able to buy 3D printed armies. It would be nice if they would charge £2 or less for a 30mm figure, I can dream.
willzParticipantCool idea.
willzParticipantWhat constitutes “necessary” when indulging in a spot of wargaming is entirely between you and your opponent unless you are taking part in a tournament or store setting where the location owners also get a say. As I have mentioned many times before, I played a perfectly good intro game of Chain of Command using Space Marines, Elder and a Kellog’s mini-pack with a straw pushed in the front and PzIV/70 scrawled in sharpie on the top. The Wargaming Thought Police did not kick in the front door and drag us off, never to be seen again. Oi! Who said,”What a shame!” 🙂 If, as I have to do increasingly often these days, you play solo and at home then you have almost unlimited options. As I have also mentioned more than once, if you are playing solo, and your opponent disagrees with you, you have bigger problems than with wargaming! 🙂 There is no wrong way to”play toy soldiers.” It is at base a pleasant way to spend a little of the time between our arrival and our inevitable shuffling off of this mortal coil. Do what you do your way and leave others to do it theirs.
Excellent stuff wargaming at its best ……. hang on is that the wargaming police bashing at the door for supporting a heretic😁.
Well done that man BZ’s all round.
willzParticipantNo, no Roger Moore fixation. Although I though Richard Burton was fun in it. But now you have me going again. The Hamilton (Ontario) game club meets up at the corner of Barton and Kenilworth streets, so that is where my thoughts go! BTW AMG?
AMG, A short lived forum “A Military Gentleman” run by John Ray who wrote a book with the same name. By purchasing the book you got to join his forum, Sadly it failed as shall we say he was a bit strict and draconian to the extreme. I will say no more as it would I do not wish to be impolite.
willzParticipantSo I saw the title and immediately thought “African Imaginations and mercenaries”. Did I miss something?
No I don’t think so (maybe a Roger Moore fixation 😀), the “Wild Geese” group of 18th century gamers were formed after the destruction of the AMG forum. Some 24+ of us have met up at Kenilworth for 5 years (not including lockdown).
willzParticipantCheers for your kind comments and support, yes it was a brilliant weekend.
