Hi, great job so far. I was involved in the Towton project, and painted ALOT of the figures for it. Its taken me a long time to regain my sanity !

Whilst working on the Towton project I also painted up my own WOTR armies, which can be seen here –

Good luck with the rest of the little blighters!

It will be a while before I get a game unfortunately. Once I move back home from Cyprus next year hopefully things will pick up.

Well, there are a good few missions in the core rulebook, but there are loads on the guillotine games website. They have also released several expansions, and extra stuff like dog companions and zombie dogs among other stuff.

There is also a compendium missions book, with loads of missions in it….

Looks like a winner to me!

    Those are very pretty!

I really like Hail Caesar, and it was always a toss up between HC and Impetus. Impetus won because less figures were needed. Im thinking that if im clever about it, ill be able to play both. What I do want to do, is expand the units, for a more “epic” look!

I think Hail Caesar would be my main, “go-to” rule set for ancients, but I’ve also been playing Dux Bellorum and I really like Impetus bases because they give me a good opportunity to be creative with the look of my units. So what I have done is to base my stuff on big Impetus bases – one base per unit – and play HC or DB with them that way. For HC, it means you have to be creative with formation changes, but I have found that my formations don’t do much changing anyway, so it’s largely a moot point. If a unit does want to change its default formation, I can just handle it with a marker.

I know what you are saying, I do like my Impetus based stuff, but I will still be more satisfied with them once each unit is twice as large, on multiple bases. To play Impetus, ill just put 2 bases together, I just dont like using markers to show formation changes!

Heres a link to my full Impetus Army –

    Hi Shandy,

I am thinking about making the basing work for lots of different rulesets. I really like Hail Caesar, and it was always a toss up between HC and Impetus. Impetus won because less figures were needed. Im thinking that if im clever about it, ill be able to play both. What I do want to do, is expand the units, for a more “epic” look!

I know im backtracking a bit but, I think they would work really well with Blucher, the new game to be released in the new year by Sam Mustafa…

The small size would certainly look impressive.

    Hi again,

The last model in this batch of WW2 painting, heres the StuH42 G. An assault gun armed with a 10.5 cm leFH 18 howitzer instead of an anti tank gun. It should prove useful for removing soviet infantry from their bunkers and trenches!

This time I have used a Battlefront model, but converted it slightly, namely i removed the commanders cupola and replaced it with a spare Forged in battle one. Theres a bit more information over on my blog for those interested!

    Thanks for the kind words!

This week I have been cracking on with these, and have finished the platoon.

Pz IV’s plough through farmland hunting T34’s!

I have also printed out some cards that I found over on Boardgame geek.

These are designed to replace the little morale counters that are placed in a cup during Battlegroup games, with the advantage that the special rules and events etc are on the cards so less looking stuff up in the book.

Anyway, as always more detail here –

Although they look like nice figures and I agree with the comments above, I wouldnt get them. I am too heavily invested in other scales especially 6mm.

Having said that I do like the look of the modern stuff…….

    Hi again,

I have been chipping away at these over the last week or so, heres what I have got done –

    Dispatch riders

    Stretcher bearers

I also had some battle rating trackers made for me by warbases. (I just made the covers, then glued them on).

There are a lot more pics and stuff on my blog so I wont repeat everything here as well….

Vallejo Game Color and Model colour are for me the best paints I have used. I find the Army painter paint has a weird consistency,  its kind of thick and gloopy I suppose.  Im not a fan of it.

Ive never heard of sword and spear until i read this thread. I have so far resisted the temptation to look at it, as I am happy with Impetus but im tempted…… I really dont need any more Ancients rulebooks!

    Thanks for the kind words.

Shawn, I totally agree, the service from Pig iron is top notch, just like their miniatures.

Im trying to work out what I should do as their enemies. I’m thinking the Kolony rebels/Ferals look pretty good…well pretty awesome to be honest… Mind you, I have a TON of unpainted GW tau that may serve as a good high tech enemy for them too…..

I have had a look at the rules mentioned so far, but will need to give them a good read later, thanks chaps.

On an unrelated note kind of….. I may have given the impression that the TW rules are not very good, that’s not the case. The problem I had with them was they are a bit too involved, meaning that as I very rarely get a game, it would mean re-learning every time I played… I just need something far simpler and quick playing. TW wasnt for me thats all, however its a great book, wonderfully produced by Osprey.

    Cheers.

Ive played a number of the rulesets mentioned in this thread, and my favorite, by a long way is Impetus. I agree though that it needs a second edition, alot has been added to it or clarified over the years, it would be nice to have a new book with everything in one place.

    Hi,

I would strongly recommend that you take a look at the Battlegroup rules. I too am an ex FOW player, Battlegroup Kursk for me gives a real period flavour, it actually feels right for the Eastern front, and not only is it more detailed and “realistic”* but its a great book too.

*Obviously no game is truly realistic but it at least makes alot of sense, Im a soldier myself and alot of what goes on in the game I can relate to….

In a nutshell, top game and great support over on the Guild forums.
