New this week we have some skimmers to get you infantry zipping about the battlefield at top speed. These are small, one-man hover vehicles used by some infantry units in the Hammer’s Slammers universe either in place of or as a supplement to normal APCs.

There are two options for the skimmer crew – a British infantryman or a PacFed one in full heavy armour. Both come in packs of four 2-piece skimmers and separate crew figures.

Units that use skimmers in the Hammerverse include the Wolverines, Anders Legion and the Eaglewing (the Slammers regiment themselves also use skimmers – you can already buy those from Ground Zero Games).

SF15-167 – British Infantry on Skimmers (x4) – £6.00
SF15-756 – PacFed Heavy Infantry on Skimmers (x4) – £6.00

Brigade Models – Cavalier 2019

Our second show of 2019 is Cavalier, run by Tunbridge Wells Wargames Society – although the show actually takes place in Tonbridge, just down the road. It’s held on Sunday 24th February at the Angel Centre from 10am-4pm.

We have a smaller stand at Cavalier than we do at other shows, it goes back several years when they kindly squeezed us in at the last minute and it worked well enough that we’ve stuck to it. As a result we’re more limited than usual in terms of what we’re able to bring, which makes advance orders even more important than normal. We’re also more limited in terms of what we can display – for example we should have a good stock of all fleet packs, but won’t necessarily have room for them all on the stand so you might have to ask if you can’t see what you want.

  • Celtos – Decent stock of all individual figures, small unit packs and medium army packs (no large army packs)
  • Aeronef/Imperial Skies – All of the most popular fleet packs (the major powers) but not the smaller nations; a good selection of individual capital ships in blisters; rulebooks and accessories for Imperial Skies (no grand fleet packs or starter packs)
  • Small Scale Scenery – the full range of all models
  • Spaceships – full range of fleet packs (no individual models)
  • Hammer’s Slammers – rulebooks; the full range of 15mm models; a selection of 6mm detachment packs (no 15mm detachment packs)
  • 15mm SF – full range of 15mm vehicles, figure packs and accessories (no buildings)
  • 6mm SF – full range of army packs, company packs and building packs (no individual models)
  • Great War Belgians – full range of figures
  • Magpie Miniatures – individual figures and blister packs
  • Squadron Commander – full range of blister packs (no individual models or starter packs)
  • Crom’s Anvil – full range of figures
  • We will not be able to bring any 10mm SF buildings, Iron Stars or Land Ironclads miniatures unless ordered in advance

Today sees the final part of stage #1 of our programme to update all of our older Aeronef models. The final one of the big six major powers, the USA, has at last received the planned overhaul of their three older capital ships. The Texas, Maine and Lincoln battleships have all been replaced by new resin and metal designs, joining their counterparts in the other aero-navies of the world.

The Texas is the oldest of the three (the original Texas sculpt was the oldest original Aeronef battleship model remaining in production) and the design reflects a vessel of an earlier era, with a secondary broadside battery in casemates in the superstructure. We’ve also taken a cue from early US naval battleships with the superimposed main turrets – these aren’t able to rotate independently, the upper turret is fixed to the lower one.

The Maine follows a similar deck layout to the Texas but with updated turrets and superstructure. It also has a more conventional superstructure and like the Texas it has a fire control and steering bridge at the top of its bipod masts.

The Lincoln is a much more up-to-date vessel with multi-layered armament in turrets and casemates. Its secondary role as a carrier escort is reflected in the pair of anti-aircraft turrets amidships.

The three new vessels are available individually or in fleet packs – each pack has two battleships plus escorts. The US Grand Fleet pack has also been updated, with one each of the new battleships plus a Lexington battlecruiser and eleven escort vessels. The four new types of turrets on these ships are also available in our Aeronef Accessories range.

VAN-205 – Texas class Battleship – £8.00
VAN-207 – Maine class Battleship – £8.00
VAN-212 – Lincoln class Battleship – £8.50

VAN-7023 – US Twin Square Medium Turrets (x12) – £1.50
VAN-7024 – US Twin Round Medium Turrets (x12) – £1.50
VAN-7025 – US Superimposed Heavy Turrets (x5) – £1.50
VAN-7026 – US Twin Heavy Turrets (x10) – £1.50

VANFP-022 – US Grand Fleet Pack – £48.00
VANFP-201 – US Fleet Pack #1 – £22.00
VANFP-202 – US Fleet Pack #2 – £22.00
VANFP-203 – US Fleet Pack #3 – £22.00

Stage #2 of the upgrade programme – replacing all of the smaller vessels – begins soon, with the British fleet the first to get new cruisers and destroyers.

And finally, as always, a shout-out to Dom’s Decals for the tail markings.

The Silverback is a huge tracked tank destroyer, more massive even than one of the Slammer’s M2 blower tanks. It has a 25cm powergun as main armament, backed up by a pair of remote tri-barrel 2cm powerguns on each of the crew hatches. An assault gun version has a twin over-under shotgun-style weapon which fire ‘beehive’ canister rounds for clearing massed infantry attacks.

The Nonesuch National Guard are the primary users of the Silverback – they also use smaller tracked vehicles, the Falchion and Fauchard which we released last year. The NNG appear in the story Paying the Piper, which can be found in the third volume of collected Hammer’s Slammers stories by David Drake. They get a bit of a pasting from the Slammers – but then again, who doesn’t ?

HS15-3501 – Silverback Tank Destroyer – £11.00
HS15-3501a – Silverback Assault Gun – £11.00

New Small Scale Scenery Released

Our latest additions to the Small Scale Scenery range today are some tiny, tiny steam trains, which have been requested by several customers. We have sets of engines, passenger carriages and freight wagons, plus a special Flying Scotsman set. They’re designed to fit our existing range of track and railway buildings.

At this juncture I should point out that I’m no expert on trains; so please excuse any sloppy use of terminology…

The Steam Engines pack has four engine – two slightly different 0-6-0 tank engines, and two 4-6-2 locomotives, one with a coal tender.

The Passenger Carriages set has 15 carriages – ten 16mm long models (roughly 53′) and five at 12mm (c.40′). These include brake coaches (distinguished in this scale by having fewer windows).

The Freight Wagons set has five flat cars in two different sizes, five box cars also in two sizes and five open wagons.

And finally, one of the most famous steam engines of all (certainly in the UK) is the Flying Scotsman. The set contains the engine plus corridor tender, four passenger coaches and a brake coach. Although tiny, it’s still recognisable.

SSS-8128 – Steam Engines – £1.00
SSS-8129 – Passenger Carriages – £3.00
SSS-8130 – Freight Wagons – £3.00
SSS-8131 – The Flying Scotsman – £1.50
