Baccus – New WW2 Releases

I know it's taken more time than it should, but I'm delighted to be able to announce that the bulk of the support weapons are now available for the British, US and German forces.

You can find more details here

Judging by the reaction of customers at Salute and the empty boxes we took home, these will prove to be extremely popular. The instant feedback that we've had is that you really like the single base approach we have adopted for the MGs and mortars and we certainly intend to continue and refine this system.

There are still a few gaps, notably in the US range, but we are well on with these and they will be turning up in the next few weeks.

Work is already well advanced on more releases in this range, with artillery and more infantry and support weapons already sculpted with more being planned.

More new releases for another period coming up next week, but I'll finish off with a quick note on the Joy of Six 2016.

We have two new traders coming this year, and there will be even more games on show than 2015 with applications arriving daily. There'll be a much more detailed update very soon, so if you are going to only get to one show this year, make it a good one and book your day off for July 17th!

Sally 4th is pleased to announce that following on from our successful Normandy Kickstarter campaign we have now shipped pledges to all backers and our range of 28mm Normandy buildings are now on general retail release.

The range contains the following kits
301 – Pair of Mid Terrace Houses £30
302 – Pair of Left End Terrace Houses £30
303 – Pair of Right End Terrace Houses £30
304 – Detached Stone Built House £30
305 – Pair of ‘Corner’ Shops £45
306 – Church £65
307 – The House at Dead Mans Corner £35
308 – Courtyard with Iron Railings £6

There are also a number of accessory packs available including a choice of five styles of ruined roof and two type of optional ruined first floor.

All kits are constructed from sturdy 3mm Medite with detailed components cut from Mounting Board and 2mm MDF. All kits, apart from the Church, contain Perspex Glazing and the church kit contains ‘stained glass’ designs printed onto acetate. The models can be finished in the normal way by painting or texturing with plaster or pva and sand, however we do supply supply free PDF downloads of the interior and exterior photo-realistic cover sheets that we used on our examples to enable model makers to very quickly and easily complete their models in the same way. For those who like the idea of printed cover sheets but do not want to print them out themselves we have professionally printed cover sheets, printed on heavy weight matt paper available for between £2 and £5 a set.

All buildings include a removable first floor and roof to enable figures to be easily deployed inside the buildings. Dormer windows that are so characteristic of Normandy dominate the roofline.

The Terraced houses are designed as pairs of buildings together with outhouse, yard and walls on a 200mm square base.
The church has a removable roof and detailed interior and exterior cover sheets. It is supplied with three tower options. A pitched roof, which is very typical of Normandy churches, and a steeple and crenelated tower top are included in the kit so that it can also by used as a Norman church in Britain form 1066 onwards. These tower tops are removable to allow figures to be deployed in to this splendid sniper position.

Arguably the most iconic building in the range is the ‘House at Dead Mans Corner’. Based on the farmhouse on the road into Carentan, named by OC Easy Company, Capt Winters and now the US Airborne museum in Normandy.

The full range is available from Sally 4th and we welcome enquiries from any retailers interested in stocking the range.

A Sergeant’s War Supplement

The platoon of Sherman tanks, down to three tracks thanks to landmines and breakdowns, emerged from the wood and accelerated across a clearing. Immediately, the crack of a high-velocity gun cut through the air. Sergeant Glen, peeking out of the turret hatch of Daisy Darling, reflexively ducked. He scanned the far side of the field, looking for an AT gun emplacement or an enemy tank. Another round cracked and Mobile Macy, about fifty yards to his right, lurched to a halt and leaked flame and smoke.

A third round cut overhead. Over the intercom he heard the driver say a prayer and his gunner curse. There was a killer out there, and they hadn't even managed to spot it yet…

Armored contains scenarios and special rules for use with the WWII small unit game A Sergeant’s War (ASW). The scenarios are perfectly compatible with other wargame rules, of course.

The special rules included here are intended to spice up armor-only games and to add more detail to combined arms games of ASW.

To play all the scenarios in this booklet, you will need a 6’x4’ table (or 3’x’2 if using 6mm figures and half-inch game scale), terrain, and the following vehicles:

US Germany Soviet Union
4x M4 Shermans (75mm) 4x Panthers (A or G) 4x T-34/76
4x M4 Shermans (76mm) 4x Pz IV-H (long 75mm) 3x T-70
2x M10 Wolverines 4x StuG III-G (long 75mm) 4x Su-85
2x M5 Stuarts 2x Marder III (long 75mm)

The scenarios include variants that change the above vehicle quantities and types.

At the end of this booklet, A Sergeant’s War stats for these vehicles are provided at the end of these rules for convenience, as are simple, printable hidden unit counters.

New special rules include:
Vehicle Leaders
Infantry manning Vehicle MGs
Movement in Tight Spaces
Tank vs Man: Overruns
Tank vs Tank: Smoke Dischargers
Tank vs. Tank: Positions in Cover
Tanks and Pinning
Vehicle Special Rules
These various rules add historical detail to different types of vehicles.
Hidden Unit Counters
Simple “limited intelligence” rules so that both sides can use hidden unit counters.

Scenarios: This booklet includes six scenarios in two mini-campaigns. Most of the scenarios feature alternative forces, to increase replay value.

Campaign 1: Tanks and Panzers, somewhere near the Franco-German Border, 1944
Scenario 1: Thrust
US tanks engage the forward elements of a German kampfgruppe.
Scenario 2: Parry
A platoon of Panther tanks plays cat-and-Sherman with a group of 75mm-M4s.
Scenario 3: Lunge
Shermans and M-10s meet Panthers and Panzer IV’s in close terrain.

Campaign Two: Tables Turned, Eastern Front, Summer 1944
Scenario 1: Road Cut
Mixed Soviet armor cuts a road against a weak German blocking force.
Scenario 2: Panzerschlact
Panthers and StuGs counter-attack against defending T-34s and SU-85s.
Scenario 3: Kill the Cat
T-34s hunt a lone Panther.

Introductory A Sergeant’s War

I have made a free introductory version of my WWII small unit rules, A Sergeant’s War, available at the Wargame Vault. The introductory version of the game includes the basic rules for infantry combat and two starter scenarios. It is 25 pages long, 19 of which are the rules. The rest are introductory/designer notes, a table of contents, and the scenarios.
It is available HERE

A Sergeant’s War emphasizes troop quality and morale as well as small unit leaders, who help you pass morale tests and withstand enemy fire. You track casualties individually but your minis fight in units of 3-8 troops. A full description of the game can be found here , and a play-by-play run through can be found here.

If you already have the full version of the game, the starter scenarios could still be of use to you.
Thanks for looking!
