The rumours of my demise...

--- were somewhat premature, thankfully! Just over a year ago, before the World decided to change itself, I closed down the old Fenris workshop in Kent and moved wholesale a couple of hundred miles North in what now seems a well-timed downsizing of space and overheads. It's taken six months of hard slog, of cramming 1200 square feet of workshop into less than 400, and of dealing with new physical trauma and health issues for both myself and the faithful Hound, but as the UK tentatively turns a pandemic corner and the Sun peers cautiously into the be-grimed windows of the converted former pig-sty that's now my workshop, it's time to shower you, oh Faithful Customer, with news of lots, and lots, and LOTS of new stuff available now or very soon...

Changing Plans
A year back, the intention was to relocate Fenris, work temporarily from these premises (henceforth: Holly Tree Cottage Workshops) and to seek out suitable new living and working premises somewhere between Lincs and Notts. Global Events forced a redesign, not least because the timing of my relocation pushed me into a pocket universe that meant zero financial support from the UK government and so completely stalled any hope of having spare budget for something as basic as my own home or workspace. Cancer scares for the Hound, and nerve damage issues affecting dexterity and manipulation for myself have all added to the challenge.

So, instead, I've spent a year recovering physically and mentally from the labour of some 27 self-loaded-and-driven vans of moulds, tools, and equipment, in catching up with the backlog of orders that built up, and in doing my best to mitigate the combined economic hit to the business of disease, disconnection from a neighbouring trade bloc, and general downturn. All this has left me less physically capable in terms of daily productivity, but I've forged new working partnerships that are starting to see concrete (more accurately, resin) results and which will hopefully move things at Fenris back into high gear once again...

While I'm taking a couple of days off from the workshop and from order processing (keeping a careful eye on Fenris Hound Oscar after his recent cancer op!) I'm trying to line up some new releases and other stuff.

First up, New on pre-order from our Forge Of Ice import range: Pterro-men of Azor. Sculpts by Des Hanley. Set of three super fine resin models for 28mm at reduced price ahead of their arriving in the workshop later this month.

One of the long-term jobs Alex Bates at FOI and I have been planning for a while is to produce Forge Of Ice stuff locally in the UK for the EU market and this is the first set of models from that schedule. We'll be gradually adding more of the FOI range to the Fenris production moulds, so that ultimately, UK and EU customers will no longer have to wait for international delays to our restocks. In an ideal world, all being equal, I'm aiming to start a similar process with our other Boutique ranges, down the line.

And talking of pre-orders, this week sees the end of the deal price on our new African Hunting Dogs sets. Metal stock arrives any time now and from that point these will be full RRP.

Almost March already, and approaching the 1st anniversary of UK Covid Lockdown. What a very Strange Time we’re living through.

While I’m fantastically lucky to have relocated the business to a place allowing me to Work From Home in safety, I am still suffering considerable difficulty in everyday working process due to the still-ongoing spinal/nerve issue that has my right/dominant hand almost unusable, so production is running at maybe 50% normal. Despite this, order backlog has been whittled down to a small handful requiring remoulds, remastering, or those including models from our Boutique Partners (Bronze Age, Dragon:Bait, Darkling, Forge of Ice, Barbaric Splendor), which are subject to the whims of postal/customs delay. Many orders, though, are being processed within 48hrs of receipt if at all possible.

Meanwhile, I’ve been steadily adding new products to the catalogue - including a huge range of Print-to-Order giant flora, new miniatures, add-ons to the Rubble City modular range, and reissued models that have been OOP for some time.
