So I started watching the BBC’s Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell on Netflix. (So far great!) And what do you know, there’s Peninsular Brits and French, cannonballs that don’t explode, and Ronan Vibert doing a great turn as an imperious and very bloody-minded Lord Wellington. And Neapolitans who steal French cannon and sell to the highest bidder!-)

Is that a British-only series? Couldn’t find it on Netflix in Sweden!

It just showed up on US Netflix a few days ago. Episode 4 (IIRC) had some brief but great shots of Waterloo and Hougoumont, although I must confess the cannon balls were exploding a bit. Anyway, great storytelling – seven solid hours of it.

Yes, a fantastic series.  Whoever they got to do the Napoleonic military research was very on the (non-exploding) ball – all the right uniform changes between the Peninsula and Waterloo and correctly depicting French Legere storming the gate.  Hougoumont itself was also brilliantly portrayed.
