    The workmanship is staggering…the gods must have been quite pleased at that offering.  (If indeed that’s what it was).

    The helmet looks to be two fixed together.  Perhaps to create space between skull and point of impact to absorb energy

    Or perhaps to make the wearer look taller and more intimidating, ala Napoleonic bearskin?  Could also be for ceremonial/dress-up.  Sort of weird that it has ear cutouts behind the cheek guards though.
