I’ve been creating scenarios for the TMWWBK during the Mahdist Wars. These range from large skirmishes to small battles.
I’m having trouble coming up with suitable fictional names for geographical features and battles & to a lesser extent, Sudanese personages.
The village of what?
The Battle of which?
The Emir who?
Et cetera.
I’m not fond of “silly” names: a la Carry On movies with the The Khasi of Kalabar. Is there some internet reference I could access?

I often use random generators and pick out the good names

There could be something more African centric out there
Or you could just google a map of the Sudan from 188o.

Or even a map of today. Google maps!
Ohrwalder’s ‘Ten Years Captivity in the Mahdist Camp’ is free online. Look at Chapter 2

Thanks for that.
It should be a good read as well.

Pleasure. Have you read ‘Khartoum’ by Michael Asher? If not, I would strongly recommend getting it.

Ha! It arrived last week in the post. I’ve started it & I already know it’s a gem.
I’ve ordered ‘The Mahdist Wars Source Book’ which should arrive in 10 days or so (long way to OZ).
I’ll be an expert before I know it……

smiles….. I would not strongly recommend ‘Go Strong into the Desert’ – it’s pretty to look at, but not much meat on them lovely bones,. and it has some hilarious typos
