That´s a minefield. I personally consider Landsknecht warfare until 1530, and espcecially the Sack of Rome, out of various reasons for rather (late) medieval. I think that a Swiss Reisläufer of the Burgundian Wars 50 years earlier this conflict as familiar. I had similar objections in the past – curiously it was a movie (Flesh&Blood starring the late Rutger Hauer) that cured me from that.
I have nowadays my problems with the sharp dividing lines that are sometimes imposed from historians (or gamers in that regard). There are several such transition phases that have often rather unique combinations. And when did classical antiquity start and when did it end? Are vikings Dark age or early middle ages? And and and.
Personally, I will take a look at this issue of the mag because of this topic.
