Rack & Ruin, a campaign-based fantasy skirmish game, is now available for digital purchase from Wargame Vault.
Spiral Bridge Studios, which funded Rack & Ruin through Kickstarter late last year, is awaiting final proofing before also making a print version also available.
Designed to allow players to use the fantasy miniatures they already had in their collections, Rack & Ruin attempts to bridge the gap between campaign-based games and tabletop role playing games.
Using a streamlined 2d6 system, game play is fast paced and easy to use. However, players are presented with lots of options, allowing for massive character customization.
Each player creates his or her party, then up to four players can play against each other. The more players, the greater the rewards. As players use their parties the characters will gain experience and develop new skills and abilities.

I am interested in this – does anyone have a review of the game? The preview on Wargame Vault only showed the index, so wasn’t very helpful at all.

The vibe I’m getting is that this ruleset is specifically designed to make Reaper-style RPG character figures more useful for those of us who don’t play RPGs. Factions as adventuring parties wherein each figure is a highly distinct, individualistic hero (or antihero or villain), typically with all sorts of special skills and equipment, only in the context of a party-vs-party mode of gameplay conducive to miniatures conflict gaming, as opposed to the party-vs-environment mode that’s traditional to RPGs.
That still doesn’t make it entirely unique, but it sounds different enough to be occupying a niche. I have no connection to this game and had never heard of it before, but my impression from browsing the company’s website is that it’s not quite so generic as to be like “all the other games out there”. I could be wrong, of course.
