Why?
The short version:
We are moving the business and don't want to move all this inventory.
The longer version:
We bought the building we currently occupy during the COVID pandemic. As challenging as that time was for the world, there was a silver lining for online hobby shops and game stores. People were stuck at home, unable to spend money on dining out, movies, vacations, etc., and the government was sending out "stimulus" checks. Consequently, people spent more on their hobbies.
However, times have changed since then. Many people overspent during the pandemic and are now in debt, while others have resumed going out with their families and taking vacations. As a result, online hobby spending has significantly decreased over the past two years post-COVID.
We invested heavily in equipment and inventory during that period, not realizing the situation was temporary.
Now, sales are nowhere near where they were during the COVID years, and expenses have risen across the board. Keeping this building no longer makes sense. We are going to sell the building and move the business to my home. I have a large attached garage and a second large shop building on my property that will provide plenty of space to run the business.
As much as I hate moving and thought I would never do this again, this move will be positive in the end. I believe it will help me focus more on the business and allow me to be more creative working in my home shop. Getting rid of most of our inventory before we move will give me the chance to evaluate which product lines we should carry in the future and which ones we should let go. Of course, things like Bolt Action, Rubicon Models, Gamers Grass, and Frostgrave will make the cut, but some may not. This will be a good opportunity for a fresh start.
On a personal note, I have been very stressed lately about the current economic situation (both generally and with the company), and this stress has seriously affected my motivation, creativity, and outlook on the future of the company. Once I made the decision to sell this property, a lot of that stress lifted, and I feel energized and hopeful again about the future.
The entire process of moving the business, getting the property ready for selling, listing, and finally selling could take months, but we have started the process this week.
